This is a TD05, but presumably a turbo blanket is fine there too

I ended up buying a 30x50cm sheet of embossed aluminium, that should do the trick. Are there any other tricks to promoting longevity of the brakes? I'm using DOT4, would it be worthwhile to use DOT 4+ / Super DOT 4?

I've never needed higher rated brake fluid on a 740, once the master is shielded and if it still has issues, the brake lines don't run down the chassis do they? Heat wrapping the down pipe would make more of a difference if that's what runs close to the line on the driver side.

Yeah that's the exact product I bought. The hardline down pipes do run close to the turbo, I have some heat sleeving for hoses that I'm going to run over them (I've procrastinated as I have to disconnect the lines to slide the sleeve over).

If you need to bleed the brakes, it's the best bet.

Okay so that stuff turned up tonight, really nice and easy to work with, just cut it up with tin snips and then bent the edges over so future James doesn't slice his finger open on it. I mounted it to the brake booster and I'll have to make up another bracket in the future, but for now it's cable tied to a brake hard line.

The brake fluid also has weird particles in it. Also it's weeping a tiny bit from where the brake fluid reservoir meets the master. That's a fairly new master, only 2 years old.

I can't remember which brand of brake fluid is green. Anyone know?

Maybe they have different suppliers? I got some on the shelf that I put into the Vitara and it was definitely green :S

Billie's brake still goes soft. I really notice it sitting at the lights when the system has warmed up. You sit there and over 30 seconds or so the pedal slowly goes soft. Looking at the master, I can see evidence of fluid leaking around the rubber seal between the reservoir and the cylinder.

The master that's in there is a cheapie aftermarket I got from Ash when I just needed an MC in a hurry as I was in the middle of moving house. That was two years ago. I think I'm going to buy a Volvo OE master.

Most brands of brake fluid are green aren't they? The only one I've used that isn't green is Nulon.

I've had master cylinders leak down too. I've used numerous Protex master and slave cylinders on other cars with 100% success rate. If they're available for your application I wouldn't hesitate using them.

I use clearish stuff that goes brownish with age, and I've used plenty of blue stuff at the dealer

How about heat soak from the turbo as a possible contributory cause? Is there a heat shield for the MC?

I was thinking of this recently when looking under the hoods of a NA 940 and The Cleever, which have their ABS systems on opposite sides of the car, and wondered if they ran the brake lines differently on RHD NAs and turbos because of heat soak problems, rather than space issues.
