Oil coolers on turbo redblocks in 240s are just bullshit. Theres no other word for it. Unless you make your own or just dont run one you will forever be having problems with it. Im yet to see an oil cooler installation that uses stock parts in a 240 that isnt a total PITA.

I honestly can't see a good way to do it nicely. The only thing I can think would be to run fairly complicated hardlines out in front of the block, a bit like how the 740 does it.

Actually, the oil cooler itself is pretty good - it's a Serck/Setrab cooler.
The factory plumbing, filter relocation is just physically awkward/clumsy.

On a 240, I'd run a spin-on adaptor onto the filter boss, relocate the oil filter somewhere convenient and mount the cooler in the mouth of the spoiler.

In our climate, I'd ditch the thermostat for the sake of simplicity. If you're mechanically sympathetic, you won't need it.

On the Vocus, I'm using a 740T oil cooler with an adaptor on the back of the sump that replaces the tiny factory cooler.
The cooler is mounted to the bar reo and I'm running AN10 lines back and forth.

The R-Sport kit has a sandwich plate for the filter, then banjo hardlines that come around under the filter and out the front, where they meet a hose.

Yep, it's shithouse and quite convoluted. Much easier to use a spin on adaptor and remote mount the filter.
This approach also allows more space for exhaust systems - which is quite valuable on RHD cars.

I don't follow. I didn't use the extension arm, just a sandwich plate on the block, like how the 240 Turbo is setup.

I'm pretty sure you can run the extension arm without too much hassle, but the downpipe/O2 sensor bung on this car were not fabricated with that in mind, so I doubt it would fit.

Extension arm can work on a RHD 240. The turbo 240 I got with a blown motor had one of a 740 with the hard lines bent around a bunch to fit. I put it on another 240 I turboed and I'm not aware of any issues.

My old 242DL had a 740T sandwich plate, some Enzed/Pirie sourced barbs and hoses feeding into a Mazda rotary oil cooler. Zero dramas over about 50,000km.

Have you monitored oil temps to see if an oil cooler is really necessary?
I had an oil temp gauge in my ke20 and didn't end up needing an oil cooler on the turbo 4age but I never took it to the race track.

NA B20 engines when run hard were notorious for having high oil temps. The redblocks are likely very similar, especially when turbochargers are taken into account. IIRC you posted a link ages ago to a blog by a guy who did tests on various oils, and showed how many of them degrade severely at temperature. The situation would be even worse here since our average ambient temps in OZ are a lot higher, so having an oil cooler on a redblock is wise.
