Tassie6er Well, I've spent the weekend on Bruce Lee and I've managed to give it the just escaped from Split refugee look!
240Joe Have you got anymore pics/info on the BMW? :) Did you paint it or buy it like that? The 245 is looking good! Love the roof rack.
Tassie6er A few have asked for a picture of my BMW - here it is in all its glory - I race it in Targa and at the Baskerville Historics, as well as any other club event I can get to. Built it myself over a number of years and got the decals specially made! Snap Tristan!
Tassie6er Well it has been a while since I've updated what is happening with Bruce Lee. It has now covered about 502,500 k's and there have been a few issues needing dealing with. First up was the 'over heating issue' which after many, many hours of heart ache and new heater core (when I decided to pressure test it...) it has turned out to be a faulty temperature gauge. Thanks to Angus, this has now been replaced and while I was at it, I took the opportunity to fix the tacho which worked intermittently. Since then, I posted a threat regarding having an issue with the car bogging down. Turns out it was basically a gummed up engine. I suppose after so many kilometres it is not surprising that an engine like this would 'coke up' but I've got to say when I pulled the manifold off today, I was startled by just how much gunk there was in the inlet. As result I've sea foamed the fuel and oil as well as putting newlon foaming intake cleaner through the system. I doubt it will get it all out but it seems to be running a fair bit better. In the next couple of weeks I intend to take it to Launceston to see BigAl to collect some wheels and then off to Westbury to grab a couple of gearbox's and a cross member I bought. So it will be a good excuse to give the car a good run and catchup with some fellow Tasmanian Volvo enthusiasts!
volvodriverman That's some quality gunk right there! If you're heading to Westbury it's not thaaat much further to Barringwood if you fancy a bigger drive & a visit. That way we could tee up a ride in Paul's gt which is guaranteed to make you smile!
Tassie6er @volvodriverman you've got me thinking - I could also bring the Range Rover bull bar and extractors (and I think I've got some headlights as well! I'll keep you posted and put something in the get together section.
volvodriverman Oh yeah awesome! I can show you all of the empty sheds I'm yet to populate with cars & parts...
bigal Ha. It's not just me that has paper work dealings with the UK on cars. The 911 is a UK beast and been rounding up birth certificates and history for a few years now. DVLA is challenging! Did you rack up most of those km's on 'Bruce Lee'? Oh and did you score one of those high milage badges?
Tassie6er Well, no I bought it with a bout 498k's on it but I'm keen to do the next 300 and join the 500.000 mile club - its got a 300,000 mile sticker on the side window, but I just don't want to be to showy! My 911 is from Hong Kong, so if you thing the DLVA is fun, try it in Cantonese!
bigal Ha. It's on my radar to try hong kong next.. found a hong kong coin in it. I suspect it spent some of its time there before arriving in aus in 04. Will see what the dvla comes back with first.. it's taken a good year of effort to satisfy their requirements with an uncle in wales as the uk contact. Now they have everything they've been very quiet for months. Must take a long time to search for a VIN in their computer system.
Tassie6er Try Stutcars for delivery. I suspect your right about it coming from HK. Do you know when it came over?
bigal 2004 arrived in aus, they wont reveil anything other than import number and date. No idea when it left the UK. It's been good fun discovering lost history though.. the thrill of the chase! Every year I discover something about it. Can't wait for the dvla records arrive. Even got the original dealer records on it from Porsche Centre Colchester in the UK.
