I'm relatively new to this site, but have had 240 Volvo's for many years. I suppose you'd say I'm a bit of a fan. My latest acquisition is a 1980 245 GL I purchased on eBay from Pommy Mark at Berry Motor Group in Melbourne and I drove it back to Hobart last week - without problem.
Firstly a big shout out to Mark at Berry's - a true Volvo enthusiast and a man just keen to keep as many of these old things on the road!
Mine is a shockingly original 245 GL with a mere 498,000 k's on the clock, one owner since new and what a gem! I'm amazed that a car with such high mileage can be in such good condition - I gave it a good clean over the weekend and other than the duco being faded, it is in fantastic condition.
Having had a number of these and for those who know these cars, understand how durable they are but I'm just blown away how sound it is.
Anyhow, I'm restoring it for a friend who wants a car that is 'shit' on the outside and 'beautiful' on the inside - I think this one - Bruce Lee (he's a street fighter) fits the bill. I'll keep you all posted on developments - and a big hello to all the Tasmanian Volvo owners on the forum!
