Hi All, Newbie to the site, I seem to be puzzled as to what it can be giving me the Vibration, The mechanic told my it was the engine mount near the Harmonic balancer, back at the start of Covid, and they didn't end up getting the part because of shipping, I ended up sourcing one a little later and installed it, still vibrating, then another mechanic said it might be the top engine mount, got it and changed it also, still vibrating, slightly better but not gone. then i though i should do the lower front and rear mounts, nasty bugger the back one, So i have changed 4 out of the 5 so far, could it be the 5th or something totally elsewhere?

The car has about 125ks, I can feel it more going around a corner with a slight incline under slight acceleration only, if you are driving like you stole it no vibration at all.

I did have an XC90 before this one but it was 2.5 lifestyle and only had to change the top engine mount to get it to run smooth, I would think the D5 should be the same.

It Spoils a good drive to have the Vibartion, with the price of fuel i would prefer not to drive it the other way,

Actually it saves money "driving like you stole it" with the D5, less oily soot clogged EGR and DPF and injectors will be happier!

We have S80D5, with swirl flaps being an issue too it's not really an economical motor at all.....She drives like she stole it, it stays clean inside , still got tappet thingoes to replace as well.

Should have got S80V8, would be cheaper in long run.......

Which is the last mount?

The most expensive mount, did you buy cheap or genuine?

Cheap may well have failed too already......

FCP Euro is best for spare parts.

Hi Snoopy, The last one's i bought were Febi mount's for the front and back lowers, these one's have the Volvo logo rubbed off, but are supposed to be genuine one's

The swirl flap connector crapped it self and i made one from a model car strut arm, works a treat, because when it came off it would go all spastic and loose all power

The XC90 i have is actually a UK delivered it's a personal import, i suppose they're all the same

I will keep this in mind for other spares i may need, Cheers

After the arm replacement a reset in VIDA of the system gave an amazing power gain on her D5!

Worth buying VIDA and DiCE unit.

AND , FCP Euro give replacement guarantee , when the part you bought wears out get n free , post excluded..

I do have a VIDA and Dice, i will have to look at the reset, i didn't know there was one.. It does have plenty of power, well for what it is, lol.

TDI Tuning box will give you more power...

I do have an evc controller on my PX Ranger and love it at it sweet spot, no good on max, too jerky being a manual. I did buy one for the XC90 but the plug would not fit and it ended up costing for return post, and they couldn't explain why it didn't fit and i beleive it's still on there site for sale, I wouldn't think being a UK car that the plug would be different. anyway yes it would be smoother that's for sure.

Is the shudder just on gear change, or under slight acceleration not during gear change ?

The TF80 transmission can develop a shudder in the torque converter (feels like the transmission slips a bit), and the centre support bearing mount in the prop shaft to the rear could be sagging or collapsed, which also gives a light acceleration shudder

Hi Staggers, No shudder on gear change and it changes very smooth, the mechanic said the trans was fine and just needed an engine mount changing, which has sort of helped, it happens mostly in 5th & 6th with gradual acceleration and more so on a bend with an incline, Which i have a few in Southern Tassie, lol, but if you drive it with more revs, no vibration at all.

I will have a look at the prop shaft and the bearing mount in the center support It's only done 125k so i thought it would be all good but i will check,

Hi guys, enjoying the thread, I have recently become the owner a 2007 xc90 d5, the test drive was great, however on the trip home on the M1 at 110kph "Transmission Service Urgent" fault sprung up, so pulled up waited let it cool down, fault went out, (owner informed me he did a fluid flush, first thought not enough ffluid or incorrect used, now shudder in reverse and park but drives and changes fine, further investigation noticed front engine mount cactus havent checked others …yet , have also noticed slight hesitation from standing start, am I up for a huge bill on my newely aquired ride ?

M1 Melbourne?
Mounts can cause odd transmission issues but codes need read.

Ex850R No mate, between Sydney and Newcastle, no faults stored, will have a look at all other mounts, big bill coming up I guess, fault hasn't appeared again, maybe scan while it's still up

      Mickb

      Codes should be stored.

Are you using a generic reader?

Only Vida and DICE Volvo specific tool can read properly or a very expensive workshop one.

Ex850R hi again, what spacific tool we talking about, thought Vida Dice was complete unit from obd to laptop

VIDA is the software, DICE is the hardware
