Was that on 7 June? In Australia?

I have not seen much news about the EX30.
Went to a Volvo Dealer last week, they told me I could order one now for delivery by July 2024.
Also told me they already had about 60 orders.

Some specs up on the various websites now. Damn - 0-100 kph in 3.6 seconds for the twin-motor AWD version. And it's available in yellow, but Wayne said he'd pack his bags if I bought one...and I don't think he's kidding LOL! There's even a Cross Country version. Interesting proposition...no pricing for AUS yet but the twin motor version appears to be about 20% cheaper than an XC40 Twin in the UK...so I guess that could put it in the $70K+ORC for top spec version. Maybe $60-65K for low spec? Only a guess at this stage.

I saw an article that said in the USA it will be around $35K USD, even with the 27.5% China import tariff. Wow. I thought the China import tariff was only 15%, but maybe Trump RAISED it by 15% to a total of 27.5%. Not sure how they will make a profit at that rate!

Nope there is no rebate on it in the USA...has to be assembled in USA and with local battery materials to get the full rebate now.

I guess it came in a fraction under what I was expecting...probably a bit overpriced but the budget (non-luxury) competition here in AUS are price gouging at the moment so no reason for Volvo to undercut them I guess!

Yes. The prices in the USA are listed as MSRP (which usually includes shipping and dealer prep - it's listed as separate line items)...does not include any taxes, licence/title fees, insurance, etc. Depending on locale, tax, title and license fees could add another 5-10%.

I cannot help but think it would be a better vehicle if the same minds applied themselves to ANY other plan but another hunchbacked, tottering faux Dakar-car SUV. Why could it not be a sedan, coupe, hatch or wagon at a standard height? What has happened to the concept of enoughness?

I'm destined to hold out long past the point of unfeasibility of fossil fuels if this is the dross we are railroaded into buying.

We can only hope that Volvo offers a full range of EVs including sedans and wagons, however they are entering the market with the most popular/in-demand segments...you can't blame them for that!

Well, "everyone" wants EVs and Tesla only sold the Model 3 (sedan) [ignoring the low-volume S - also sedan - and X - SUV] so that's why you see so many of them. The Model Y (is it an SUV? I sometimes can't tell them apart when I see them on the road) is #1 selling passenger vehicle now in AUS and worldwide so you'll probably see the numbers shift on the roads away from the 3 to the Y eventually. If they made a Model 3 wagon we'd probably have one in the garage now.

Regarding "cheap grey import Japanese cars", I don't think that's even a blip on most peoples' radar (how many come in every year? Maybe 1000?) so we're talking about a small fraction of anything significant in the market TBH.

But yeah, I'm in agreement with you - I would love to see more non-SUVs available. Sadly the trend is to larger vehicles that take up more space on the road and still have 1 person in them...the #1 seller in AUS is the Toyota Hilux...why?

Alsub I believe that was the wordldwide unveiling event. They have started to allow journalists to drive the car now in Europe, but there's an embargo on reporting about the drive experience until early November sometime. You can go on YouTube and search for Volvo C30 and get a lot of good info including static reviews from Europe and the USA. To my knowledge there are no cars in Australia yet - supposed to be arriving later this year (first demos) then first deliveries in AUS in Q1 2024.
