mmm long overdue thread update.

I did get it finished and travelled to Sydney.

Pics from the rally.

and 1 from the trip home

and some pictures from the GLT open day on 31/10/15

and finally a couple of pics taken at a local meet a couple of weeks back.

There was a white one for sale in Vic recently. Not sure what happened to it. (Early front)
I had some light damage to the front and rear bumpers. They were still in much better shape than any of the spares I have so I removed them, disassembled them and beat them back into shape as best I could.

Not perfect but quite an improvement.

bumper off

better view of the damage now that it is disassembled

After

And on to the rear

Stripped

And back together

Very effective job. Send to me, I have a bumper repair factory ;) we have every Aussie car steel bumper die, and a lot of prestige.
And we'll can repair just about everything else

You could mention that yours was the only 1-series car there! (That's how I got one of my trophies.)

Stunning car! Those wheels.. So good.

Where did u get the rears widened and how (rebarrelled)?

What make are the whitewalls? Looking at a similar setup on my 74' 145 but noticing anything whitewall is pretty expensive.

And (last one), who owns that orange 73' 145 at the sydney rally? Never seen a 73' 145 in Aus.
Thanks @bigal. I am very happy with the way it looks but it definitely photographs well. I wish it was as neat as it looks in the pics.

The wheels have been re-barreled. I had a local wheel shop do them back in the day but have since done some myself. It is not a difficult task if you set up well for it.

The whitewalls are just Atlas inserts, I have been running inserts for around 8 years and have found them to be very good. They do yellow and get brittle eventually but that takes a few years. I am just about to fit my 3rd set now after a failure on the weekend.

The '73 wagon belongs to a bloke named Alexander Davis. He is a member of the SA Volvo Club.

Thanks for that info! Just bought a set of Atlas's. :-)

It is all about fitting them correctly, most tyre shops are hopeless at it.

Happy to give you some tips if you are thinking of fitting them yourself.
Yeah that's the next hurdle.. Trying to get a good job of it done in Launceston. I'll drop into some places and see if they've done these before. If they don't fill me with confidence it'll be a diy. Thanks, I may have to sing out for some tips.
