I've been looking at these diy kits from treadstone for my 3sgte

https://www.treadstoneperformance.com/turbo-manifold-diy-kits/c698

Add in around $90-120/Hr workshop labour. Treadstone kit at maybe $AUD350 (+ postage wouldnt be cheap) not sure of local prices for parts.

The aforementioned $1200 may be about right , quite a bit of welding. Cost of CNCed flanges and collector fabrication etc , gas and consumables. Quicker with a top of range MIG than TIG with same result on quality. ($12K MIG......)

Exhaust shop may make cheaper as hourly rate less, back yard fabricator as well.

Economies of scale don't really count , only getting machined parts but the setup costs take away any benefit on say a dozen units. So you won't get cheaper on a group buy. It seems the fabrication shops still in business after pandemic are flat out so they may not even want the work.....

And also quality counts, because it is schedule pipe it needs decent welding , sure a handyman can do it but may be hit and miss as there are tricks learned about pipe welding as you can imagine...

The constant heating and cooling stresses the welds as can be seen on the cheap ones failing and the standard manifolds cracking in time so don't think paying less is a good thing when later it costs to pull it out and get it repaired......

I'd be in for a top mount turbo manifold if there's a group buy.

    serk

Looks like @GingerNinja s workshop guys have it sussed, see if they want to do a run of them , as I said, group buy cut price really isn't a thing on short orders as setting up for different flanges etc is a pain and nothing is done quicker , you just shortchange the owner.....So they may say fowgedaboudit as plenty of customers will pay good price out there.

I am looking at an exact copy of the KL Racing upward and forward with an additional bend so that it does not foul on the lower radiator hose. I may have my old ebay manifold around. I could take that around local fabricators to see how much it would cost to replicate using proper steam pipe bends.

I spoke to them today about making more but they're a bit scared to do it without the car to check fitment. Sometimes things weld up a bit different and this was all hand done. I didn't ask about a full manifold price but I'll see if a run could be done on my car as it's still there. Price would be more like $1200+ though based on conversations with them before they started.

The CNC 8v flange is $310. Waiting on a price for the merge collectors. I've seen flat laser cut flanges on here though for $90 so you might save a bit there.

This whole manifold thing kicked of when I took a used eBay one up there they said it was too thin and cracked and sh!t haha. Making a better one got out of hand pretty fast.

Sure a pre cut flat flange is good but then can deform like fvk when welding on some pipe......

What you had made for a fkn bargain is a bit O art and makes the welding so much easier.

So , this scenario , i weld onto the shit thin flange and it pulls like fvk so i spend 3 hours @ $110/Hr fixing it ad it will still not be flat enough without machining.

    Get a HD flange......

Yeah I agree. They have cut out a few fancy 8v flanges if anyone wants one. They're ready to ship. I think they'd rather sell the CNC parts on their own, not a full custom manifold. Less headaches for them. I'll try to change their minds.

That's a fair deal though, you get someone local to you to put the bits together, geez you could tack it all together and get someone to make a frame for key points then pull it apart to get it right for welding in said frame. Then whack it in a oven to hear up to normalise it so no stress.

Sounds easy.......needs a good shop .....but if you get it together someone will weld it.

At +$600 USD for this repro, the custom fab work seems reasonably priced, even more so when you consider FX.

Did this go anywhere with the fab shop and group buy?
