  • 850r - convert to manual? or not to convert... That is the question

I understand this maybe one of those pain in the arse questions but anyone willing to put up a full rundown of parts required for the conversion ? Be it 5 or 6 speed box ...

            Fair fucks ?

I have found as I have been collecting but not completed the conversion its all the small parts eg clips, clutch lines and hoses that are hard to come buy and alot you cannot buy new anymore. There are a few guides online but I have are from the US market. It's more cost effective to buy a whole car if you can find one. There was a red 1998 V70 forsale earlier last year 2.5 20v manual $2500 in WA I should of brought it as I reckon i have spent nearly $2k buying bits and pieces along the way and i still have no gearbox flywheel or clutch and missing a heap of small parts mainly clips and brackets

I'm still kicking myself for not picking up that R manual sedan for 2k couple of years ago . I let the colour stop me lol

LOL you own the R i went to buy but you beat me to it. I was out the front and the seller told me you had purchased it lol timing and hind site is everything.

I remember that lol , I wanted to go the day before that but someone was going to look so he cancelled me . Then later that evening he rang me saying that it was a no show can , I come tomorrow as being next in line ...

Absolutely 100% buy a donor car, You'd be mad to purchase every bit separately.

I picked up a manual T5 wagon with rebuilt gearbox for 400 bucks from Geelong years back when I did mine, absolutely the way to go without a doubt, This goes for either an 850 or an x70 car.

Do you think those days have sailed of finding a manual donor car for less than 1k ?

I have a look now and then but nothing.

              Nah, Keep looking,

Id probably up your donor car budget to 2k if you are worried about missing out completely.

If I was doing it now Id pounce at the next decent manual car I see irrelevant of price

150 I paid, wrecked V70, right place right time!

Any old 850 or *70 sent off to wreckers /scrap MAY be advertised cheap enough by unsuspecting owners but really, the old "Volvo driver" type that bought them new are dead and buried by now.

You may find one, otherwise look to other countries.

USA can be good if they will post, worth the cost for bits.

                Cars there go for peanuts.

I bet you thought it was Christmas ?

When I thought it could not get any better, after stripping it had the perfect combo of solid flywheel and internal slave.

And met a lovely bloke of here, thanks John!
