So I mentioned that this had the weird idle and stall then restart issue.
Just as a prompter for me, because it did it really badly today and wouldn't restart properly...in peak hour...and with lots of smoke.
Symptoms: It will randomly, whether cold or hot start to lose power, as though it is losing fuel pressure. Happens at all speeds under light throttle. That hasn't resulted in any real problems to date though. Then there's the trundling along in peak hour traffic or stopping at the lights.
First it will stutter, puff of smoke, black first, then white, then it will get worse until it dies. Neutral doesn't matter, nor does a/c, so it doesn't seem load based / idle control. Adding throttle makes it worse.
When it restarts theres clouds of smoke. Annoying.
Process - done:
- Fuel filter - new
- Fuel pump - new
- Fuel pressure relay - ordered awaiting delivery
- distributor, leads, plugs - recently done
Process - to dos:
- All hoses / vacuum lines and joiners
- Idle Air Control and hose (Clean & inspect)
- Throttle body (Clean and inspect)
- Fuel pressure at fuel rail (add fpr with gauge)
- Codes - no scanner yet
- Coolant Temperature sensor (and thermostat)
- PCV system piping / flame trap / oil trap ?
- EGR Valve / sensor
