The backstory -I've been chasing another P80 850/S70/V70 for a few months now and, with thanks to @iceton1975, I've managed to buy a 1997 V70T5 fro...

I'll have a look at the back of the headunit and check it out. I've left the 'frame' in the dash so could easily re-fit a replacement speaker or modify it to fit something else.

Got a steering wheel and a shift knob back on it today, along with the column stalks.

Steering wheel is a 'chunky' style 2000 V70R wheel which I had retrimmed by Royal Steering Wheels in charcoal alcantara with silver stitching and a yellow stripe at 12 oclock.

The shift knob is a brand new genuine volvo plain-jane auto shift knob. Leather auto ones seem to be NLA and I was desperate to rid the car of the last trace of wood trim.

The downside to all of this work is that the original cluster had 199K on in and the V70R cluster I've fitted has 364K on it - I need to find someone who can swap the blue gauge backs into the original cluster.

You can program the clocks Ash , to the desired amount of ks . I was reading an old thread on those R clocks ( to fit an 850 or v70) . I'll go find the thread.......

That'd be handy. I just want it to match the cluster that I removed. Not looking to do anything sketchy.

All good. Might be easier/cheaper to fit the blue gauge faces into the original cluster.

You want a cluster to have a play with? I can just throw one in the post for you.

Thinking about centre speakers , it was workable to hook up a speaker accross the terminals of hifi speakers for a rear fill single which we did in the '90s with no issue , get a speaker and try it.

But for front of course.

Got a couple of McIntosh tweeters from Subaru you can have , get a midrange type that will fit the spot and off you go. Of course , a better DAC plumbed in is a big boost to sound quality....

Good info @Ex850R - I might come back to the centre speaker idea, depending on what it sounds like. In the previous V70, even with the standard speakers, the SC901 headunit and no centre speaker, it was way better than the Focus XR5 stereo, who was 9 years newer.

I'm digging through more boxes of parts at the moment, mixing and matching bits and pieces for the best interior I can put together.

I've got heated seats wired and working now too. I had a new genuine Volvo coin tray surround (which the switches mount into) and found some used switches in my stash of parts.

Found a decent lower column surround too but not an upper one yet.

I'll repair the passenger side lower dash today and get the glovebox back in.

Drivers side can stay off until I plumb the boost gauge.

You are lucky to have reasonable parts to work with , even ten years ago when I was doing the V70R I had to paint stuff from piles of bits out of self serve wreckers and some I wrecked myself, great work!

I've repaired a heap of the parts I've ended up using, simply because I couldnt find anything better.

The lower dash panel required some work as a lot of the original mounting tabs were broken, so it was a case of drilling new holes and fastening to the dash itself via some small domed head cap screws which are hidden by the glovebox lid. The glovebox bin itself is not perfect but the best I could find.

Even where the dash fits into the car isnt perfect, as it seems to sit up slightly on the passenger side so that the black band around the windscreen is more visible in front of the driver but less so in front of the passenger.

Interestingly, it was like this with the beige dash too... AND the bolt to fasten the dash into place was particularly tough to remove and refit on the passenger side end. My guess is that there's some sort of defect in the mount in the firewall that's always been there, but not 100% sure.

I had plans of fitting the stereo this evening but realised I have the incorrect vehicle to ISO harness - I have an Aerpro APP023, which appears to be for P2 and not P80 cars. I've ordered another one and will have another go at it all once it arrives.

Front guards and skirts came back from paint today though -

Guards are from the parts car and have been modified to accept the GM side markers. Skirts are off this car and I might need to go and pull one off the parts car to recover some clips, etc.

Maybe. It's handy for wrapping things in that I dont want damaged. Doggos can have it again when I'm done.

What's these indicators you speak of ? I was thinking about them last time you mentioned them but don't know what they look like ?

Requires minor modification to the hole in the guards - VY-VZ Commodore, TS Astra and likely some other GM products.
