I picked up the V70 last Saturday from having the roof, bonnet, quarters and V70R rear bumper painted and a new windscreen fitted but, as is the norm at this time of year, I haven't had a huge chance to get stuck into the reassembly of it yet. I have managed to get a few things done though.
To paint the quarters properly, I'd also had the quarter/cargo area windows removed and refitted once painted.
I still need to get a pair of front guards painted, along with the skirts, roof rails and the V70R front bar.
The first thing to do was fit a grille, refit the under-bonnet heat/sound deadening mat with new clips, fit new windscreen washer jets and get the Koya front wheels on it (850R wheels are going to a new home).
The grille is a V70XC grille, specifically it's from a '99 or '00 car as it has the 'blue' Volvo (ford) badge -
It still needs a wash but I'll get to that later, once I've made a bit more progress.
With the front stuff done (for the moment), I removed the towbar and began refitting the rear bumper support/reo and carbon exhaust surrounds into the V70R rear bumper. One of the bumper side mounts had been broken so I needed to remove this from the old bumper and fit to this one as well.
Also, one of the bumper mount brackets on the car was bent so I fitted a new one while I was working through it all -
With the towbar removed and the metal bumper mount brackets removed from the car, I body-deadened the inside of the chassis rails and all around the holes the towbar left behind and things look a heap nicer under there now.
Rear bumper being prepared and ready to be mounted -
The factory V70R exhaust surround trims are held on differently from left to right, so as to address the cars that have the bumper with the two holes, but one has a blanking plate over it (LHS for V70R).
The LH exhaust surround is clipped into place by two small lugs but is also fastened in by two scrivets on the inside of the trim. The bumper I have has led a hard life and someone had previously drilled out these holes and fitted the surround with a couple of oversized screwed and some ugly square nuts. So, instead I used black titanium countersunk capscrews with anodised black aluminium countersunk washers. It's much nicer -
The carbon surrounds werent as nice of a fit as I'd hoped, particularly the RH one. I originally intended to use the factory one on the RHS and a carbon one on the LHS but ultimately went with the carbon one anyway. Fitting required some ingenuity, making a small bracket and bonding it into place. I'm not 100% happy with the outcome so might come back to it later.
The car now has a rear bumper on it for the first time in months. I'll (hopefully) get the roof spoiler back on, get the rear interior back in and the towbar wiring tidied up this weekend and might give it a first wash.
Here's where it sits at the moment -
Rear suspension is done and ride height will settle again once I do a lap of the block.
I'm still waiting on some Ohlins parts to finish off rebuilding the front struts and with some space freed up once the rear interior is back in the car, I will get started on the dash swap.
