While COVID and lockdowns continue to impact getting this thing dropped off for paint, we're plodding through little stuff.
I'm running out of small things to get through though and I'm still waiting on some parts to put the Ohlins front struts back together, so I haven't touched front suspension yet. Brakes are here waiting but I want to get bodywork done first and then fit brakes and finally feel wheels once the car is back from paint.
Test fitted the V70R rear bar and carbon roof spoiler. The rear bar wasnt in great shape, required some heat to resolve a slight twist in it which may very well have been from storage - I've had it (and a V70R front bar) here for 3 or 4 years, waiting for another V70 project to come along.
I'm still slowly collecting interior roof parts to replace parts that were either beige and originally from this car or where the grey parts from the parts car were too ratty to be of any use.
I had a couple of carbon interior light surrounds made up as well - these are a carbon 'skin' rather than a wrap and use the original light surround shell for structure, rather than being a full, complicated and difficult to mould piece.
On the left is the surround for a sunroof car, and on the right is the surround for a non-sunroof car. Above that are front bumper headlight washer blanking plates.
My parts car, unlike this car, had charcoal interior with light grey roof lining. This meant that the buttons in the surround are black rather than beige. Black buttons, of course, were the ones to use.
Crappy photo of it fitted, but you get the idea. Sunvisors are light grey, from the parts car. I'm still chasing RF and RR interior grab handles in grey if anyone has any.
I've also been tinkering with 90s stereos and fitting them into the double-din hole. I had a single din bin from a car I'd wrecked years ago but someone mentioned the genuine Volvo single din bin which has a nice flocked finish and is supposed to look factory. I ordered one of those in (p/n: 9150773) and I'm not sure if I like it or the generic black one I had better. The Volvo one required slight modification with the die grinder to fit the alpine head unit and I can work out which to fit later when I do the dash swap and get the stereo in place I guess.
Here's the generic one. I think it's upside down in this pic and that the lip is intended to stop things sliding out. The genuine Volvo one doesnt have that, I'm not sure it looks any better or worse though.
I've also got a working Alpine stacker that I'd bought back in 2001 with this head unit but rather than use that, I've got a Yatour media reader than plugs into the standard Alpine M-Bus connector and gives me MP3 playback via USB and SD card. You can also expand it to include a bluetooth module - not sure I care about that in this car though.
Media reader mounted in the glovebox. I'd hoped to mount it to the 'ceiling' of the glovebox but the airbag module is in the way of the mounting bolts.
I used some polycarb sheet I had lying around and some kart floor tray spacers and mounting hardware. The reader is simply doublesided taped to the polycarb sheet.
@rado suggested bonding the polycarb sheet piece to the ceiling of the glovbox rather than bolting it in place. This would mean I wouldnt have to worry about clearance around the airbag module, so I might revise this down the track. I'd have preferred black material too, rather than white, so I may very well look at it again.
Beyond all that, I retrofitted a cabin filter (this car didnt have one) using the frame/mount from the parts car, replaced the firewall engine mounted with the updated version as I'd done on the last V70 and probably a few other odds and ends I've forgotten about.
Very keen to get the paint work done now so that I can get back to work on bigger stuff. Progress is progress I suppose.
