Yeah right did a head gasket or something didn’t it?

yeah thats right. hes a top bloke. well into motorbikes and does engine machining if i remember correctly. will have to see yours at somepoint when its done.

So I got this far over the weekend. Had a bit of trouble getting rocker covers to fit, had to chase down a set of standard 308 ones (they’re actually hard to source) so they could clear the clutch master.

at the moment the clutch fork is also hard against the firewall, although a bit of cutting, a bit of bashing, and it should be okay..

shifter doesn’t quite lineup but the supra box has a number of options available apparently. Just need find the correct one to suit as I have the most rearward one available.

Next step get the engineer around.. he wanted to see engine “just resting in place” with nothing hooked up. The engineering thing is new to me, hoping he has some good advice for a few bits I’m not sure how I’m going to finish (where to run fuel to the mechanical pump)

Yes the supra box has a number of gear stick positions and ratios, I got a rebuilt one from a company in West Sydney, Google the available ratios and top plate stick positions.

If you have space to move everything forward you might solve a couple of issues together.

If you go the route of swapping shifter housings let me know, I'd be interested in doing a deal on your current setup. It looks like you have the 20.5 shifter position and the 19" or 18" would be better suited.

Changing shifter positions requires both the shifter housing and the 'slider' the base of the shifter sits into. 18" is the only slider available to buy new, though not cheap https://dellowconversions.com.au/product/slider-18-for-toyota-supra-trans/. Other slider options require hunting second hand. All the different shifter housing positions can be brought new including short shifter options.

I have the opposite issue on my build, the shifter is to far forward. I'm using a r155 gearbox from a hilux which has the same shifter housing bolt pattern, through shifter held in differently compared to the W series like you have and the R154. Not my picture but you get the idea below which is an 18" shifter position. Pretty sure the slider from the box I have would also be compatible with your box.

    Any progress?

Yeah been a really bloody slow one. As you could imagine lol. Postage for anything has been a nightmare!

ive got the engine solid mounted in now, cut and lowered by about 40mm so clearance issues are all sorted. Ready to measure and fab up the cross member.... but I’ve got a damn broken ankle now and can’t do anything!!!

ahh nice. id been keeping an eye out for it thinking it would be done by now! mines at the paint shop atm then its off for rwc. two more on the road down here.

Not heaps to update , I did get shifter sorted. 18” lines up perfect took a while to source the right one

more workshop upgrades got in the way ended up installing a hoist that was a bit of a stuff around, broken bits in the post for the single phase motor

cross member prototype fabbed up now , will fully weld up and paint over the next week or so then I can make the tail shaft and move onto fitting off the motor!

Also dropped the motor about 30mm lower so clearance issues for clutch are gone. Unsure of what master cylinder to use if anyone has any recommendations of what may suit. Here’s a pic of my cat too I can’t work out how to get rid of ha ha

The old 308 looks more at home in there than any other donk I've seen.

That crossmember design is really nice! Simple and elegant.

And the 308 sounds way better than the LS

Thanks mate was easy to fab up , although without the bends I have restricted myself with space for exhaust. Cross member will need to be dropped down to get the flanges in. Something I’ll deal with when I get to that stage see how painful it is...

Crossmember is painted, installed, and approved by the engineer woo hoo!

next up will be rerouting fuel then final engine assembly

An electric fuel pump is worth the effort in my experience with my Weber fuelled 122, let it prime, go!

I'm doing the same in my B21AT build, retaining the stock electric pump setup and using a carb-friendly manifold-referenced FPR to get the ~5psi feed to the carb.
