Your tool might be talking to an ECU but it is not the engine ECU most likely the transmission.. The 850R engine ecu is not obd2 compliant. It is wired to a different pin. You need to pull the codes by the LED method and then disconnect the battery to clear, if you are not using the volvo diag tool.

I see.. I was confused, the reading i had done suggested that the 96-99's worked fine with a standard OBDII, I assume the 4.4 850R is the exception?

i will make myself up a led code reader..

It will read and reset codes on the srs, abs, transmission, acc , seats, and reset the service light. Not sure about the motronic ecu error code. I know it will not read them. There is a crack of this this, could be that and the cable at that price.

I remember now the talk when i had my R , its OBD 1.5 which doesnt help us at all but am sure there were the code machines as Nick has shown.... What you can do is get an ECU from Lucky at ARD Ideas and it can be updraded for that as well as a lot better performing as well...$480 ish ( without an ECU exchange ) is by far the best thing i have ever done to a volvo turbo , the S70T5 i had was fiddled with by a previous owner and went hard too , they go great with some twaeks!!

Rob , save all the expense and get the ARD tuned ECU , he provides that cable for serial or USB and you just get free software , tuner pro , in fact you could make a cable and get the software free if you didn t want to get the tune from lucky. You can also obtain Volvo FCR yorself , cough , cough downloaded.....

Looking pretty awesome Rob. Where'd you get the badges from? Keen on doing that to mine. I've also got clear side indicators too which looks a bit slicker IMHO

The wheel centres are from eBay uk. Can give you the link if your interested. I think they were around $30 or something like that. Grille badge is from Dave Barton.

Clear side indicators and V70 upper tail lights are already on there way..

I was thinking about doing something a bit different with the wheel centers today. Might try some newer black ones and either find some black black lug covers or black lug bolts and paint the alloys a lighter shade of silver. I'll get around to it once I finish about 72 other jobs around here :))

Anything planned performance wise when you get the manual tranny in?

Rob , with the fogs in lwr spoiler , I have been looking at LEDs and there are small ones in metal bodies that may well do the job there if you don't get new ones that is.. .As I said I tried HIDs in mine but they need quality Philips kit considering the bashing n vibration down there.

Getting there! When i got some paint done on a damaged back bumper cover after i ahem , cough , cough , backed into a massive block of concrete.....I had the black on the bumpers and side strips done body colour too , looks great on the RED one i had but not so noticable on yours. V/S70 door handles look good too.

I think the s/v70 door handles look good. I read that they fit fine but you lose key lock functionality. I imagine you could get around this but filed it in the 'temporarily too hard' basket, maybe another time.

My 98 V70 has a key lock driver door handle and i was looking at getting a USA LHS driver handle/lock as when i didnt have the central lock fob i was always going to unlock the passenger side....

Last week i broke my bonnet safety catch while i had the grille out.

Today I fitted an x70 bonnet catch. The safety catch setup on the x70's is much better in my opinion and doesn't have that stupid tab sticking through the grille. I think it would be particularly good if an eggcrate style grille was fitted because there would be nothing to support the original tab.

The latch itself bolts up fine, the handle needs 2 tabs cut off and 2 small holes drilled for screws. 2 screws holes need to be drilled into the inside of the bonnet below the grille. the rod is too short for the 850 so needs to be extended by about 15mm, i made a new one from some chrome plated rod that i had that was the right size... simple as that.. Works a treat.
