ljk346 The new cap resesses the injectors head deeper than the old one, suggesting a change in spray pattern.
jamesinc @ljk346 you have to re-use the old spacer, it won't spray right if the nozzle is recessed inside the cap Edit: also the cap might fall of into the engine
jamesinc Uhhh you can probably run it without a spacer, the o ring will just be able to wobble around a bit is all. Maybe. Yes it's silly that the kits have the wrong size spacer. That spacer, by the way, is the one you use with the fuel pressure regulator oring.
ljk346 Solved! Stole old injector spacers from my parts wagon. Re-essembled with used cap. Now I have nice spray patterns and peace of mind. Thanks @jamesinc for all the help
240 @ljk346 when you did this, how far did you push the new pintle caps on? I did mine recently and found that when I pushed the new caps on, they didn't go down as far as the old ones, so the o-ring had heaps of play (like 2-3mm). I then pushed down on the table fairly hard and the cap 'clicked' on further. (I did then have to try and pull it back off very slightly so the o-ring at least had some movement.) I did re-use the old spacers too. Did you have a similar experience? (Just out of curiosity more than anything.) Also, annoyingly, one of the injectors has a bad vacuum leak after I replaced the seals. I have some spare seals so I can re-do it, but it is a pretty bad leak - there's not anything else it could be is there?
240 Isn't the whole point of the o-ring to mould around the surface that it sticks against? I'll definitely check that though.

ljk346 There is a very firm click when the cap is installed correctly with the correct spacers and that. Oring shouldn’t have too much play with the correct spacers, mine had virtually none. Make sure its sitting down properly like they did before.
