So got the 81 264 which has been lying in a barn for the best part of 16 years with fuel etc etc, I've changed the plugs, fuel filter, dizzy cap, rotor leads and coil and dropped the old mingin fuel from the tank and put 20l of 98 in the tank.
she does run and rev. But after about 5 mins of running she stalls, so been thinking of pulling the injectors and try to clean them either with carbie cleaner and compressed air or possibly steeping them. Any thought of what else might work? Then hopefully it might be good? Also got the worst of the vacuum leaks but need to check again.
Cheers

Bottle of a good fuel sytem cleaner in the tank. (Or 3).
If that's kjet then clean that fuel distributer piston.
I let my 911 sit for over a year and a fuel hose went dry and turned into a sprinker.. wouldn't start due to low/no fuel pressure. maybe check for fuel leaks like that.

Cheers for that

I don't think it's got anything to do with the injectors, six components that work fine one minute and then all fail at the same time? Nah, you've got a better chance of winning the lottery.
Your failure is caused by something that is common to all cylinders.
The first thing I would check is the fuel pressure, you'll need gauges to do that. If the supply is dropping off before it stalls, you have a fuel supply problem and can start investigating that.
No point pulling apart the whole top of the engine if the fault actually lies in the fuel tank, or in the wiring.
Get in touch with my brother Duncan (@DCW242) he's been playing with a couple of B28E's recently, and probably knows more about them than most other people at this point.

Cheer @Angus242164, I'm getting fuel to the distributor. Haven't checked the fuel line coming out though, possibly the pump could be cutting out. The thing that's puzzling me is the car won't start again till its cooled down usually a couple of hours+

Next time it fails, pop the cover off the fuel pump relay and push the contacts closed by hand to make the pumps run, and see if it starts again.

Will give it a shot:-o

Hmm wonder if it's flooding. After it stalls, remove a plug and see if it's wet.

Any progress?

Just back from work on tues. No had to take the patio down yesterday. Today was running around, so hopefully tomorrow if it's not pissing it down.

So stripped down the intake today and reconditioned the starter, or made 1 good one from 2, 1 260 and 1 244. They were identical bosch ones but with different mounts. She's running just a lot of smoke.

Good to know.
Glad to hear she starts now. Just as long as it's smoke she's blowing, not steam.

So she's running except when she gets hot it stalls and won't start, and what it is, she is getting no spark from the coil, and 6-7v at terminal 15 at the coil, shouldn't that be 12v?.
Cheers

If there's a resistor probably 6-7 V when cranking and it'll rise to 10 when running.
Been playing with k-jet again today myself :)
You really need a pressure set to diagnose the CPR which could be the root of hot start problems if the pumps are running and flowing ok. I got a cheap set of
ebay.
gavinh
Even if there is no spark?
pauljloz
OK - if no spark (not just the voltages indicated) - that's a problem too!
That voltage at the coil is OK. Check for spark, cap and leads.
Google "Volvo TP 31397-1 Ignition-OCR.pdf" for some detailed ignition troubleshooting info. Its for 740 models but covers the 82MY B28E with TSZ ignition.

Wondering if it's the impulse sender in the dizzy?, I have voltage at the bosch unit, coil, etc but haven't checked for the make and brake or voltage from that when it's hot, and I did have issues with it when I first got the car trying to start it
pauljloz
Greenbooks say to check sender resistance at the bosch ignition unit.
Have you checked that the impulse wheel is mechanically ok?
gavinh
Checked it with resistance/continuity, was working, but never when it's hot. Tomorrow's job
