Is it possible to get remote & key cut for XC90 2004 without going to expensive Volvo dealer?
jamesinc
I don't think so, except maybe by going to an overseas dealer (some of them are a LOT cheaper), but I've never been clear on whether they will do it for an Australian car.

Its a Volvo dealer job why do you need more keys or don't you have any? there are options but I need to more info

Up to 3 drivers use the car on a regular basis. Often it is parked where someone else can pick it up later on; which is really hard and not safe to do with one set of keys. I have the original key remote. I wouldn't mind if I could get a key to open & start the car without it doing all the other fancy stuff that the transponder remote supposedly does. The previous owners lost/misplaced the second set & the service set many years ago. Volvo dealers charge an arm and a leg to get another set cut. However, I am starting to realize that it can't be done by Adelaide locksmiths even the "expert" guys decline. Therefore it more than likely looks like a Volvo dealer job.

It is a Volvo job but you don't need to get the full key just a courtesy key from Volvo the key will cost about $80 then a $40 cut fee and $80 for key to be coded. what is your location?

I can get a key, but need your car for the rest of the job, so its best you use your Volvo dealer in SA, Get a price on the key and let me know see what I can do. call me 03 98745544 the workshop 8-5 Mark

At least you can use the info Mark provides to get those prices.
They will no doubt try to charge lots but front them and call their bluff.

Will ring Mark, I have to drive to Ballarat in a couple of weeks. Might as well stay an extra day or so & go to Melb.

New key for my 2006 c200 Merc was $650 so for one the Xc90 has it.

Is it necessary to get a key coded? Won't a copy do the job for a basic key without remote entry, take me home lights etc?
nickm
I had a key cut for my S40 2002. They remove the code ecu and program a key to match it.
$200 for 2 keys

Immobiliser needs the code.

The locksmith had a program to pull the code from the unit.
They have to physically remove the unit to clone the key.
He said he could do most models of Volvo as long as the unit was accessible.
