Hi guys could someone tell me the location of the evac purge solenoid on my 1995 volvo 850 sedan non turbo 10v engine. Getting a lot of confusing information from the net. Seems there are different locations for different year models. I have a 1995 850 wagon to take spare parts from....are the sedan and wagon evac in the same place. Both are 10v engines. A pic of the required part would be great. I have acquired the wagon for parts....if anyone is looking for wagon parts I may be able to help. I need the passenger door and a few parts from the engine as spares. Also has a towbar. As long as its nothing major to remove from the wagon......I am not a mechanic. Thanks for any info you can supply. Regards Ludwig

Is it mounted on the back of the radiator, next to the fan? It's a small plastic doodad it will have an electrical connector and two vacuum hoses connected to it.

Where is the wagon located at for parts?

Hi James thanks for the reply and info. I have attached a pic of what I think is

the evac purge solenoid. It’s on the back of the radiator at the top. Hopefully this it. If I am wrong please anyone let me know. Regards Ludwig

That's not the evap purge valve, it looks like the map sensor.

Can you post some more photos of the engine bay?

The 20v models are usually mounted on the edge of the fan shroud next to the battery.

The 10v models may just have a conventional vacuum operated charcoal cannister without a purge solenoid, so if your chasing a particular code/fault it may just be a split vacuum hose

Hi Tim thanks for the reply. Yes it’s a 10v engine so you may be right. I did see a utube video where you needdd to take the front passenger wheel off and the arch cover to access the cannister and purge solenoid. Would anyone know if his correct for a 95 model 850. Thanks

Yeah I would have a look there first, as that's where the cannister lives. Some of the pics online have a solenoid on-top of the cannister

Yeah if it's not on the side of the radiator the canister itself is the next place to look.

Thanks guys will pull the wheel off tomorrow and at least will be able to follow the vacuum lines to the solenoid from there. Thanks if anyone needs any smaller parts from the 1995 wagon…it’s a 10v motor… let me know. The wagon is mostly complete… was running ok but in limp mode. It’s only good for parts. Thanks
