So I managed to get a au series 1 T5 for cheap?..based on the codes it seems to be the 6cyl box. Was wondering if anyone could tell me if they know what input shaft I'd be needing to buy to go along with the conversion or should I not risk it and just look at the input shaft first ?

Read the T5 post. It's got everything.

What is the tag number on the gearbox?

Wr2a 7002 AA on the box tag. And WR2A 6394 AA on the bell housing

W2RA 7003 AA

13-52-065-922 maincase, 0557-066-906 extension housing.

Should also have 0557-001** on the tag, plus the serial number.

AU Ford, 6 cylinder.

No suitable off-the shelf input shaft will fit this box to work with the available adapter plates.

You will need to get the input shaft lengthened. Talk to Gear Repair Australia about getting that done.

**Edited: correction - W2RA 7003 AA is 001, not 002.

Ahh okay. How much would you think I would have to lengthen it? I think there was a guy who did it but I cant recall his measurements. I

    That's a very personal question.....

It needs to be the same dimensions as a 1352-085-050 - i.e. 10 spline, 9.25 inch total length, with gearbox face to tip length of 7.18 inches. The spigot end needs to fit into a ASB501R bearing at the crankshaft.

I think there was a guy who did it but I cant recall his measurements. I

    Not going there. Sorry.

Unfortunately it's best to get an xr6t T5z now because gear repair are out of business.

Surely there is somewhere that can lengthen input shafts?

And judging by what you said I'm tipping the XR6 T5z can have a straght swap input shaft put in if so what sort?

Mustang 93 gt shaft is the one that matches. Alternatively if I do a clutch and flat flywheel I can supply the correct spline clutch, similar cost.

Sorry, but no - the W2RA 7003 AA Ford 6 box won't take any off-the-shelf V8 input shaft.

It uses a BTR cluster gear, 0552-077-031.

Like all BTR clusters with a "0552" part number, it has a different gear helix angle to any 23-tooth input shafts used in US boxes.

Screenshots below from BTR Service Bulletins 259 (for 6 cyl, late 1993) and 262 (V8) dated March 1994, show he part numbers. Nothing much changed with the boxes internally after this; only the extension housings and shift rods to match. 91DA means EB Ford.

Note how Ford V8 boxes with a tapered input bearing use a US-type cluster, the 1352-077-070.

The '053' cluster is used with needle roller input shafts, and that also is the same cluster as used in US listed assemblies 1352-115, 1352-188, 1352-202, and others.

          053 clusters mate with 1352 085 020 [10 spline, 24 tooth] input shafts.

          070 clusters mate with 1352 085 060 [10 spline, 24 tooth] input shafts.

EDIT: Unfortunately, Gear Repair Australia appear to be out of business now - although their website is live, their phone number comes back as disconnected. I'm making enquiries to another company in SA to see if they offer a similar service.
