dmc https://ozvolvo.org/discussion/9997/1990-240-wagon-for-parts-melbourne#latest Wheels gone, sun visors gone, trim gone. Still lots of car left. If you need anything just ask. I would prefer it went somewhere useful rather than the crusher.
Porkchop Thanks mate I'll give it some serious thought..... I'll report back on the brake system conversion for anyone else that's interested in case someone wants to give it a whirl too. Just got the later model junction block from Melbourne (see image) at least they made it pretty for my $90 :/
Porkchop Another question, I want to replace the front brake hoses (quite possibly they are the originals) when I do the other work on the hydraulics as I figure if I'm doing a full bleed of the system I don't want to be faced with doing it again further down the track. I've seen these for sale on Fleabay and just wondered if there is a better/preferred option and also are they correct for my 84' wagon and yes, I have read on the ad that they say they are :) https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2x-Brake-Hose-for-Volvo-240-P242-P244-P245-300-Mm-/142575270251

May be cheaper overall? https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-brake-hydraulic-hose-rear-240-244-245-242-260-stainless-steel $75USD for qty 4 including shipping. I recently put a full set on my 79 244DL project car. They look OK especially for the price.
Porkchop @carnut222 thanks for the reply, I've just bought these https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-mercedes-volvo-brake-hose-front not wanting to cheap out but I have a feeling that this car may not be around for the long haul although I would love to be proven wrong, so opted for the non-stainless versions after reading the reviews on the site at least they're made in Europe not PRC so quality should be decent...
Porkchop Thanks for the heads-up but I had to get things moving so had already ordered the hoses from FCP (see post above), I've bought stuff from Ash before and agree that he knows 240's inside-out. Received the MC with reservoir from the UK yesterday but only had time to post today, I could see from the image on Ebay that the port at the rear of the reservoir wasn't pinched off so it must have been taken from a 240 with shared clutch/brake fluid. I guess as long as I close it off effectively the unit should operate on my earlier vehicle, I'd love to have a go at heating and pinching it off as per the original but not sure I can do it as thoroughly as ATE.
carnut222 I’d just put a rubber cap on the port and be done with it. I’m assuming when it’s manufactured, it may be somehow moulded to ensure no leaks. Just pinching it off and trying to melt it together may not be sufficient to prevent weeping.
Porkchop Yep I was thinking along the same lines I guess it was just seeing the image online of what must be the version from an auto that made me ponder it....
Porkchop I kept the original pads (only 1/2 worn at most) and bedded the rotors in carefully partially because I didn't want to do any panic stops with the brakes feeling pretty spongy initially. They've been on the car for six months now and I can't report any issues whatsoever, they seem to have been machined accurately and therefore nil vibration etc. I've been meaning to post the second instalment of the project for ages but too busy, luckily I took quite a few photos so your question's spurred me on, stay tuned....
