Did more work on the wiper wiring harness yesterday and did some testing. For some reason I can’t get the delay wiper function to work, even with a brand new relay...however the relay is the front wiper one, not the rear wiper one. The rear wiper one didn’t seem to work either. Not sure how they’re different as the wiring diagram is pretty much the same. Anyway, I know the wires are all OK so will deal with the relay later. Then I decided to start looking at the late-model tailgate I have as I wanted to pull the lock/unlock motor and fit it. Well, the rear wiper motor, mount and mechanism are different (improved?) so I thought I’ll use the new one. The newer wiper arm bolts on instead of clipping on, so it’s much easier to install and remove.
Had a bugger of a time getting it all out. I have a feeling the ball/socket pivot at the wiper end should pop off, but I didn’t want to damage it, so I ended up unscrewing the crank arm from the end of the motor shaft. Will be fun to put back - may still see if I can pop the arm off the ball socket.
Also debating as to whether to put the new-style black tailgate handle on, since I’m going to a blackout theme on this car. Finally, the lock cylinder on the early tailgate is smaller and funky mounting style...option 1 just leave it and use the remote lock/unlock motor only (ie disable the key lock). Option 2 modify the hole in the tailgate to accept the new-style lock cylinder. Hmm...will think about that over a coffee! :)
Old wiper motor, mounting plate and pivot mechanism on left. New style on right.
