Been working on fiddly bits for the past few days. Today's job was to make up a bracket to hold the cruise control cancellation switches for the brake & clutch pedals. As usual a quick job turned into an all-morning affair. Turned out OK. Probably will remove and round off the sharp corners and paint with some flat black paint just to tidy it up. Not that anyone will ever see it LOL!
So I have all the bits necessary and just going through my stash of wiring to get lengths of wire in the correct colour combinations per the 93 wiring diagram. I like to try and match the OE wiring diagrams so if anything needs troubleshooting in the future I can remember what's what or a future owner of the car will be able to follow things.
I had previously mounted the cruise control vacuum pump on the RH side plenum panel - the holes are already there (uses same holes as the old K-jet fuel filter bracket IIRC).
Before I put the dash in, I want to pre-wire for all the accessories (driving lights, the aforementioned cruise control, power windows, power mirrors, remote keyless entry, etc.) I opened my stash of gauges and had a look - I have 3-4 sets of the "GLE" gauges, plus numerous clocks and a couple left-hand drive 3-gauge pod housings. I picked the best of the GLE gauges to install. Need to look at on-selling some of the spare bits as how many of these can I have squirrelled away?
Need to find a 5-bar oil pressure gauge. I have one and sender for the 91 240 +T project...guess I could snaffle those for this car and find others for the +T...
Needless to say, progress feels glacially slow as it seems to be more hunting through bins for parts, looking for wire and connectors, and thinking about where I want to route the wires, mount the black boxes etc. I bought a cheap remote keyless entry on eBay so that's another thing to go in.
Also need to unpick the original 79 wagon rear body harness as I need only the rear wiper wiring. Will use the 93 sedan wiring for the remainder of the lights and fuel pumps. Interestingly the 79 wagon had no rear wiper delay relay - it just had a black joiner with 2 blades on it that basically jumpered between two of the terminals on what would be the wiper delay relay plug. Looks factory so I guess maybe that feature came in a bit later or they deleted it to save $10 on a relay?? Who knows, but I found a relay from the 81 wagon I wrecked and it's now in place.
