Thanks for moving this to the project area
@egads
Finally got the carby adjusted so the car runs OK. Needs a bit of fine tuning but now I’m onto the rest of the budget stage 0.
Before starting the engine, I flushed cooling system and replaced radiator, coolant bottle, cap and hoses. Looks very good inside (no corrosion in around thermostat etc.) Changed oil and filter. Replaced front cam, intermediate and crank seals and spun up intermediate shaft to pre-prime oil system. Replaced plugs, cap, rotor and wires. Replaced sheared engine mounts. Once I got the car up to operating temp, I did a compression check. All even around 130PSI IIRC (I wrote it down but out in the shed at the moment).
Replaced clutch slave & master cylinders, so clutch hydraulics now functioning.
Replaced brake booster with later galvanised one (original black one was peeling and rusty due to leaky brake master cylinder). Replaced brake master cylinder.
Replaced front lower control arm bushes, tie rod ends and sway bar end links. Fitted slightly larger fron sway bar from the 81 wagon I parted out. Ball joints look like they were replaced prior to the car being put into storage, and tie rod inner joints move freely with no play. Will hold off on struts for now; upper strut rubber mounts look decent still. Still need to tighten the LCA bush bolts once I get the car back on the ground and at proper ride height.
Replaced brake hoses (front) with FCP Euro braided SS hoses; still awaiting rear hoses in my latest FCP order. Managed to round off two of the copper line fittings on the short pipes from the hoses to the brake calipers, but fortunately had spares from a parts car. Amazing how easy they are to round off even with a proper flare wrench spanner. Not sure if there’s any tricks of the trade there...
Topped off M45 gearbox oil and checked diff oil level (OK).
Once I get the rear brake hoses, it will be onto filling the system with fresh brake fluid and bleeding...then maybe finding out whether the calipers are OK...looks to have had new brake pads shortly before going into hibernation.
Exhaust system looks OK but mount from bellhousing to downpipe not fitted. I have a spare one from the 81 wagon, so will try to fit that up. Looks like holes will need to be drilled in the downpipe stiffening plate to fit the support.
Once brakes are sorted, I’ll run thru other RWC items. Will likely need to replace some of the rear suspension bushings. Hope the heater fan works! :) Will post some pics when I get a chance.
