Hello All,
I made a big mistake and touched piece if plastic on my car and it fell off!!

Basically I stood on the driver's door sill to reach across the roof and managed to snap off the entire side trim that sits under the door. Broke all the clips in the process ?

To fit the clips back on the rail is near impossible and I don't know my best option of fitting this back up again. Any tips would be great.
Maybe somebody might have clips?

Thanks for your help.

Martin

Simply buy new clips, ensure trim is straight, fit said trim and Robert's your mothers brother

Clips are impossible to clip in properly, have you done it before?

Yes, 1199S. Wanna buy it? :)
You have to remove the pin, then install the clip then hammer in the pin. It's what keeps the clip tight in the panel

I've got a 1098S I don't ride now...
Did you figure out the clips? In the photo of your clip, the mounting tabs are broken off, and what you're seeing (the round bit in the centre) is the "pin" ramrod mentioned. Looks like you need new clips. I'm pretty sure Berry Motor Group or Voldat would have them in stock...or stealership.
P.S. Part number is 1304520. If you want to buy online aftermarket ones, check out this eBay link - set of 26 clips shipped to AUS for about $30AUD. FWIW I've had varying luck with aftermarket clips on side trim etc. so buyer beware. They may be fine...there are many sources of course, this is just one example.

And here's what it's meant to look like before you push the pin in, and with the tabs intact.

Good advice. Been there, done this with The Heisenburg.

Why don't you ride it no more? I've never ridden a 1098S. Only Ducati I've ridden is mine haha

I went into the shed last night to have a quick look at the clips and the centre piece (pin) didn't move by hand and looked molded in place but must try it again tonight with tools.
I'll call Berry Motor Group today and see.

So to install the trim properly i need to install the clips in the body first and then slide on the trim all the way along the car?
Yep, clip goes in, then the locking pin gets punched into place, then once they're all in you install the trim itself.

It takes a hammer and punch to bang the pins through to remove the broken clips, and a hammer to bang them in on the new clips. As James said, you put the clips in the body first. You don’t slide the trim on, you align it to the correct position then usually I use a rubber mallet to bang it on to the clips one at a time. Sometimes you can sort of hook the trim on the top of the clips and rotate it onto the bottom tab of the clips while applying pressure. Good luck and hopefully the clips don’t break. They’re a bit fiddly and almost impossible to remove the trim without breaking at least some of the clips.

Thanks very much for the advice. I just bought some clips from IPD so I'll see how i go with installing them. I'll give some feedback on this thread when I'm done.
