Any V cams available?
V cam

You mean a VX or VX3 cam?
Edit: I stand corrected, there is such a thing as a V cam

Vx3 is more common and considered better.
The V cam only came standard in 1985 740s with a B230E, for Australia at least.
It's a pretty good cam overall, they perform well in turbo engines. I had one in my NA B230 240 and it worked well, it was a lot better than the standard M cam but nowhere near as aggressive as the H cam.

Yeah I saw a V cam on eBay (for $500) and then searched oz Volvo. I found a thread on here about it from 2014 or something. Also search turbo bricks and found some threads saying they were a really good turbo cam. Was wondering how many were around if any at all. I would be keen to buy one. From what I have read they are good from 3.5k - 6.5k rpm
Why are they considered better? Does the vx3 have a better low end power? I have read that the v cam is pretty shit low end. They recommend to advance a v camVee_Que;c-139588 wroteVx3 is more common and considered better.
the VX3 has the V cam intake profile and the X exhaust profile from memory, one way or the other, it's got over 10mm lift and OK duration for a stock cam (K cam wins for lift and duration). I literally have 2 sitting in my shed not doing anything, So to pay $500 for a stock Volvo cam when that sort of money can buy you a VERY GOOD KG2T cam brand new for a turbo car (lots of duration and not too much lift). It's stupid and the person is delusional to advertise it for that amount.
The VX3 is also advanced 3 degrees, IPD sell a copy of them as their performance NA cam.

I know of a V cam, Ill find out if its still floating around tomorow
Yeah you won’t catch me paying $500 for a stock cam but it did get me interested after I did a search on the V cam. So what would a K cam be like in a turbo application? I haven’t done much research on them to be honest. Are you willing to sell one to me?Vee_Que;c-139618 wrotethe VX3 has the V cam intake profile and the X exhaust profile from memory, one way or the other, it's got over 10mm lift and OK duration for a stock cam (K cam wins for lift and duration). Cheers Julian that would be greatGhettobird;c-139619 wroteI know of a V cam, Ill find out if its still floating around tomorow
So a K cam is bigger with more duration even in the exhaust side. More duration and lift on the exhaust side in particular in these 8v motors is desirable for a turbo application to get more exhaust gases out to spin the turbo up faster, basically. It's a little bit more complicated than that, but talking about these cams it's more applicable. The intake on the K cam is more of an issue, but even then it's not huge and the kg2t runs more duration with less lift. Either the vx3 or K is a good choice, the V does use more lift on exhaust, but availability is the factor there.
I'd consider parting with a vx3 assuming I still have two.

Can confirm have V cam in stock, $100 :)
V cam with a stock pulley felt good in my 760 Turbo, I imagine it would work even better advanced a few degrees.
From the info I had available at the time it appeared to be the best available stock cam for a mildly modified turbo engine, so I got one.

Thanks @Vee_Que I already have a vx3 here I thought you meant the k do have have one?
@Ghettobird that’s good news I’ll get back you you about this
@Angus242164 that’s what I have read that it’s the best in a mildly modified engine. All my cars are only mildly modified and I have read that to advance them 4 degrees works well. I’m after an interesting cam anyway. Thanks for your experience with this
And thanks @Vee_Que for sharing that chart. Just saved that one ?

Ok so I bought a V cam... gonna spice up the white 740
a year later
How did your V cam go?
I am installing mine now, that I bought from someone in Oz Volvo a few years ago. The car has been sitting out the front for a few years with a blown crank bearing. I have to get a few new spacers.
