Tassie 145S trip and discussion

Will get some mpg data one my fiddling with instrument panels is over. No lighting at night. Immediate susprect was the dimmer.

Poor little thing didnt stand a chance! Its made out of crap aluminium, stainless steel and brass. It whould have fizzed if it actually got wet!
So either replace of bypass.

So I linked the wires behind the plugs with a link.
Replaced the bulbs and then reinserted the dash (what a pain). And all is working - except no dimmer.
Smiles all round.

Oh the 123ignition gives a car with much less variation in idle and smoother running. more pul I think but.. well see how it goes fuel wise on the return trip to Tassie next month.

As I wait for a time to do the trip back south with the 145s Ive been fiddling and fixing.
First the manifold as in the previous post.
Still working well.
Carbs need to be running a bit leaner bu that can wait for Tassie.

Then the instrument lights.
The dimmer was stuffed!
So I eventually bypassed it by linking the wires 1 and 13
it worked
Then I fitted an extra spotlight.
Then I swapped out the small wheel for a 72 wheel from my 164.
The small wheel was crazy with no power stearing and looked stupid
So much nicer to drive in town.
Now to fit a 164 alternator.

Drove down to Tassie - today - writing this on the ferry!
Sat on 65 to 70(mph) all the way from Queabeyan to Melbourne and got 24 plus MPG.
Fully loaded - 145 spares and personal junk - 28pse front 40psi rear
The 123ignition worked faultlessly. Clean starts and seemingly endless power (from a B20?) hills were not a problem as it stormed up at 65-70(mph) 100 to 110kph.

Sadly I loved the stearing wheel. yes its a 72 from the 164 but it works - without power assist!
