Seems it was common "Back in the day" so most didn't make it into the 21st century.
Tassie 145S trip and discussion
Ah! So that accounts for the redesign of the manifold.
So there are throttle butterfly valves in the carbies, and also these valves in the manifold to direct the mixture through two alternative flow paths in the manifold?
Yup and give you 4 extra places to wear and leak!
Yes, it was some early cold start setup.
It is slower to "warm" up but the 140 is always a cold fish
Interesting, I've only seen the later more conventional type manifold until now.
It was dropped when they went to Strombergs in 1970.
I have a '69 B20B with SU's and never noticed that the manifold was different, I'll have to take a closer look.
I'm about to bin these unless anyone wants them as a historical record.
Seems like they're rare now, and some purist will want one, one day. If some skilled and brave soul can weld it, it will be worth something.zzdhalla;c-151816 wroteI'm about to bin these unless anyone wants them as a historical record.
The purists can have it. Just pick it up or it goes in the recycling.
Yeah I have a 68 145S with B18 and SUs and it doesn’t have that type manifold from what I can tell, but it could have been changed many years ago?Angus242164;c-151814 wroteI have a '69 B20B with SU's and never noticed that the manifold was different, I'll have to take a closer look.
I think it was not universal. Non of my earlier cars had it. More did the Oz assembled later ones. Need to do some reading. I thought it was a 71 Tru thing.
It was specific to SU carbies. The latest one I saw was on a 1969 142 with sunroof and overdrive. I remember it was coked up under the plate. The butterflies in the manifold worked when the choke was partially on, directing air via the chamber over the exhaust and then back behind the butterfly. It didn't really inspire me and my SUs went onto the more simple manifold.
This car is Jan 1971 build and has Strombergs - cylinder head was replaced last rebuild but nothing else - as far as I can see. Oh it was a Swedish delivery for export to Au.

Just fitted (finally) a 123ignition. Simple if you follow the instructions. Old distributor bagged and placed in the wheel well as a spare.
8 days later
Will get some mpg data one my fiddling with instrument panels is over. No lighting at night. Immediate susprect was the dimmer.

Poor little thing didnt stand a chance! Its made out of crap aluminium, stainless steel and brass. It whould have fizzed if it actually got wet!
So either replace of bypass.

So I linked the wires behind the plugs with a link.
Replaced the bulbs and then reinserted the dash (what a pain). And all is working - except no dimmer.
Smiles all round.
Oh the 123ignition gives a car with much less variation in idle and smoother running. more pul I think but.. well see how it goes fuel wise on the return trip to Tassie next month.
