Forgot the update on the alarm .....

With using the gray relay and ....

...this black box with the single button remote i now have remote central locking with flashing hazard lights when locked and the red led in the middle of the dash. Happy days.

So the wife's been shopping on ipd back in june and presented me with a couple of boxes yesterday. ...

She said she went through my shopping cart lol

Plugs . Leads . Dizzy . Rotor . Short ram . 2 engine mounts . Pollen filter...

So made a start . She's a goodun . No remap or exhaust system for this , I'm happy with the performance what with the auto box . Going to have to change all the littlw red silicone hoses though as a couple are being stretched a bit too much for my liking...

So after a couple of days of belting around the difference around 3500 /4000 rpm is very noticeable very nice but keeping an eye on the needle on the boost gauge it's struggling to reach 10 . I've got 3 meters of new 6 mm hose to replace and will go through the system as well just to make sure there is no leaks ...... will report back over the weekend .

Stock boost on an R is 10.5psi I believe, so you're bang on the money mate. I think the standard T5 was 9.8psi.

Ah i thought it was close to stock . I have never had a boost gauge befor and was getting a little worried. Got to really boot it to get there though and I'm doing like 110 kmh ( little higher than that ) to see it hit the 10 mark .

Turning that rod a couple of turns has made a difference.

You can pressure test the actuator with a simple pump gauge to see when it opens, from memory on a 15g/16t I think it's 4.7psi, this is controlled by the tcv, I've heard mixed reviews about the IPD one, maybe put the original back on and compare?

Where do I get the pump from ? I've been reading about how to do it . They also say 4psi but maybe the r is 4.7 ..... yeah I'll dig the oem out and give it a go . What's your opinion on mbc's ?

I think your right, 4psi on the 15g/16t and 7psi on the 18t/19t, I just put the 2 together to make 4.7 lol, must be my age and memory 🤣

Something like this would work

MBC's can be alot of fun but also dangerous, yes you can set the boost but there is no control of when that boost comes on ie straight away so if you start flooring the loud pedal at low rpms ie under 3000rpm you will quite likely bend the standard con rods, where as with a good map boost is controlled so the higher boost levels will not come in until after approximately 3.5k.

Ok just gone ebay and bought the tester kit .

Yeah read that the boost comes in a bit quick if you've turned it up too much . Map sounds a lot better . Never thought I'd say that lol . Sounds good .

Correct me if i am wrong then dont you need one that supplys pressure as you and I want to set waste gate opening pressure 4 or 7 psi not vacuum wich would be inches of mercury HG not psi? Pr does yours do both? I assumed that the waste gate servo worked on pressure not vac but this is an assumption so i could be wrong.

One thing that has been bothering me about the car is the rear springs , on pull off or just booting it it feels like its doing the old Carolina squat . The suspension has been changed during its life but feels its time to change the springs , mainly the rear . I'd love to lower it but iv'e already scraped the front lightly so will look into oem ride height ....

@rado do you have the nivomat rear shocks? They get pretty saggy at this age

At some stage the front and rear have been changed to Bilstein suspension
