I've been looking for a couple of weeks at aftermarket BBS Steering wheels and near a decision but also reading all the threads I can find on aftermarket wheels for the 850 . I have got to say , most comments are pretty negative as most are against it because no air bag situation. I'm pretty much from the era growing up with cars pre air bag and it really does not faze me if I have one .
So been reading but still in the dark a little about how to bypass the air bag . Anyone done this ? Others have taken the air bag bulb out , any thoughts guys ?
I'm not actually adverse to doing an aftermarket wheel myself and ditching the airbag. Part of me wonders about how much 'safety' a 20+ year old airbag might add (or perhaps might not add) anyway.
There are bosses available in aftermarket so that you can fit one to a P80 car that are easily available and then its as simple as finding a wheel you like - a 330-350mm dia would likely be ok - and mounting it up.
In terms of the airbag light you might be able to tell the car it doesn't have one via VOL-FCR or similar, or perhaps using a resistor in that circuit to make the car think that the airbag is present.
Max Papis, former Indycar/Champ Car, Nascar, Sportscar driver founded MPI. MPI do a decent range of really good steering wheels. I've been considering one of these or the basic black (with alcantara trim) OMP wheel.

On my last V70, I had Royal Steering wheels in the UK trim a wheel for me, adding padding and thumb grips. This was done in charcoal alcantara, with a charcoal leather centering strip and teal stitching -
