Ive got a laser thermometer and thats a good point anout the temps, I will put it to good use. Ive got access to a dyno also which I would be anused at using. I would definitely go the larger bore exhaust as you suggest. That feels like the last part of enjoying the standard motor.

It depends on the EMS, but typically the rail should always be at 2.5 or more commonly 3 bar relative to the manifold. If in doubt, grab the Bosch part number off the pressure regulator and chuck it into Google and you should find specs.

We really need a group buy or somebody like VP Tuning to start importing some SS 240 exhaust systems. I think Simons in Sweden also make one. If you could get it landed here for about $4-500 I reckon that would be a deal. The few people I've talked to about having SS exhaust systems made for their cars paid at least double that.

May be worth checking CVI as I got a full SS system for my 1800ES from them about a year ago and it was about $650 landed. I see the CVI web shop is open today! On again, off again.

That's good to know. Is that an off-the-shelf kit or are you saying if you go to an exhaust place they will custom build it for you for $400? From what I've seen a lot of exhaust shops do pretty dodgy stuff re the exhaust hangers etc. I guess it all depends who does it.

$400 is very cheap by all accounts in Melbourne or Sydney. More like $800-1000 for header back that could still be done a bit rough on the hangers. Though a mate had a very good system made in stainless by a backyard guy for $1200, downpipe back in 3", it's the exception.

Yeah Liverpool exhaust did a 2.5inch system in our 245 for $400. It's all welded and doesn't have any flanges. Also uses basic baffled mufflers but it's worked for 4 years. So yes it can be done.

Thanks for the input on the exhaust. Any comments on the intake?

The intake on your 240 is already quite good and not restrictive. Is this a 100% street car? If so the intake won't start being a restriction until you get into making much moar power than you currently are. I'm talking about moar turbo, moar boost, moar revs, moar race car, otherwise the intake is fine for your intended application.

Car is a bog standard 240 B230FX. Just want to make sure its running as it should.

Happy to leave the inlet alone, there is a lot of chat about the cold start valve playing up/ristricting flow? Or is this older cars/keyboard worrior talk?

The car does not seem to have a high idle when cold and does run/miss a little when first driven. Its got a slight miss at idle until totally warm. Anything to check here? Plugs and all consumables are less than 5000k old.

Maintenance items, namely everything, since you're keeping this car, should be changed first. The computer takes care of the cold start. Do you have any fault codes? How's it drive once warmed up? What's the fuel consumption?

Warmed up is fine, the very first moment its started, the revs sit about 1100-1200 for a moment and then settle to 850-900ish. Only take 1-2 seconds. No fault codes, drives fine, fuel consumption seems to be fine, maybe a little high, what should it run at? If the cold start is run by the ecu is there a sensor to tell it to up the revs?

Yes it's the coolant temp sensors job. Any vacuum leaks?
