Major Ledfoot JFYI there's a new Scantech tailgate harness on eBay for about $50 AUD shipped. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/332506283192
Cam205 Thanks for all the feedback. Ive emailed sell to see if theres any more of the harnesses. Thanks for the heads up bgpzfm142. Do these have a Left and Right harness? Ill look into the shadow line trip. If NLA Ill get a 3M guy to check it out. Maybe he can do a run of a few if others are interested. Cam

Cam205 Excellent. Thankyou. Ill make sure which one it is and chase up the other if he has none left! Cam
carnut222 It is fairly easy to repair the existing harnesses. The wires used were a special more flexible type than standard electrical wire, so what I usually do is use a section of the original wire from an area inside the tailgate and shift it up to the hinge location, then extend the ends as required to meet up to the body harness and tailgate accessories. Of course if you can get cheap replacement harnesses it's easier. I think the replacement harnesses are only about $15 each from places like FCP.
carnut222 I stand corrected about FCP. Looks like they may only have the OE harnesses available...about $50 each at the moment. I know the Scantech or other aftermarket brands are much cheaper. They used to stock them as I've bought from them before.
Cam205 Thanks again guys. ill have a look at the option once we start pulling the car apart. Still need some clarification on the rear tailgate hinges. Are there differences? Im sure the later models with the back ones open the gate higher? Cam

Cam No, I think the hinges are the same as I have a 91 that had chrome hinges and I fit new black ones to it, and I also have a 93 with black hinges and the tailgates open to the same height. Both have OE Volvo gas struts. The opening angle is limited by the gas struts, so if somebody replaces the struts with aftermarket ones it's possible they might alter the open angle. Obviously there's a mechanical limit on the hinges that you will hit eventually, but the gas struts should bottom out before the hinges do.
Cam205 Shes on the road! Ended up doing the engine and transmission swap. Was fairly straight forward apparently. Was at the shop for about 2 weeks in the end as he was waiting for a few seals for the transmission. I ended up spending a little more than the original budget but all in all its a keeper for life and a brilliant car that is almost like new! All the suspension work was done and I can happily say it is one of the tightest cars Ive owned! The wife loves it to bits and gets comments all day in it. The aircon works a treat and it drives beautifully. I needs a proper polish to really get it shining. As you can see it was well looked after by the original owner. The car also has every service log book, original receipt of sale, tyre change the works. A testament to the first owner. Hopefully I can care for it just as well over the next phase of its life!
Cam205 A few questions too! It needs fresh tail lights, are these available and or quality? Also needs headlights, her old car has really new ones, are hey changeable between the chrome and black trim levels or its it just trim and I can swap away? The original motor was a B230F and the Sedan motor thats now in it in is a B230FX. Do I need to swap the computer from the sedan to the wagon? I did try and and didnt notice much difference so have left it there unless I should swap it back?
carnut222 Headlights are interchangeable and the black upper trim strip can be swapped easily...just held on by a couple screws. The computer may be the upgraded one on the FX. Look at the label. Pink label ones can be dodgy. White label ones are supposed to be better. I don't think the FX had different computer map...just a better cam...but I could be wrong. Nice work and it definitely looks like a keeper!
carnut222 That looks like the ignition computer (EZK). Both in your pic have same Bosch part number so all good. I was referring to the fuel injection computer. It is located behind the black plastic trim to the right side of the accelerator pedal. The pink one I think is a 561 and white is 951 but I'm going by memory on those numbers so don't quote me.
Slowbrick Congrats on getting it on the road. That looks fantastic! From memory of internet lore the things that made an FX and FX was: -531 head -VX Cam -*Upgraded* fuel computer. I know the first two are correct as I used to have an FX in a turbo build and it had the first two items. I cant really comment on the last one. FX is a very competent turbo motor as the compression is not as high as a regular F which gives you a bit of head room to run boost on the stock computers while at the same time returning good fuel economy because of the higher than normal compression.
Cam205 Ok Excellent! Ive been in touch with the mechanic and hes sending the *upgraded* fuel computer this week so when it arrives Ill switch them over. I would love to eventually turbo it. Its the wifes car so will have to be done on the sly... " babe, why does the car make woooosh noises and spin the wheels everywhere?" Was actually looking at your build yesterday. Props to you! Ive heard the auto boxes cant handle much power? Cam

If it were me I would leave that one standard and maybe later on buy another one in worse condition and play around with turboing it then
Cam205 Heres the computer from the Sedan which had the FX motor. Ill have a look at whats in the Wagon tomorrow.
Cam205 Long time no post The wife absolutly loves the 240. Weve travelled over 5000k now with no hiccup, no oil use, no fluid use. Goes well and is so steady. We changed the computers over and it did give us a touch more poke.. The thicker roll bars made a good bit of difference and was enjpyable hustling it up and down the coast on the twisty stuff. It has developed a slight miss at idle now that its cold, it does not seem to have an auto choke or any sort of raise in revs when cold, is this normal? I have a feeling its struggling for air (induction), or exhaust performance, seems asthmatic when you want it to rev. Is the ‘air box mod’ actually an issue with these later models? Im tempted to replace the CAT, and middle and rear mufflers for peace of mind. Above 110kph it just dosent have much poke, or is this normal?! (Fwiw, Its a B230FX) A big thanks to all who have helped with this project, its such a lovely car now. Cam
jamesinc "Asthmatic" running could be a symptom of a number of different things, but if it were my car I would start with just having a cursory check of the spark plugs, then the fuel system (test rail pressure/FPR functionality, and check/replace fuel filter), as in my personal experience the thing that most commonly causes that sort of issue is the fuel system. If the cat were clogged, an infrared camera or a laser thermometer taking readings before and after the cat would give that away (a functional cat is hotter at the outlet side). Regardless of the state of your current exhaust, if you were going to refurbish the exhaust, I think you would get better value by having a new exhaust made up in a 2.25" diameter with a single muffler and a 100 cell catalytic converter. That will unlock a bit of power.
