Would a owner have to declare the turbo as a modification to insurers? If so in general how much is added to the premium?

Depends how much bigger the turbo is. Some owners may claim to be unaware of the 'modification'. Not sure insurers like this word. As XC70s are known cop magnets and a modifier's wet dream you could probably get away with.

My v70r seemed to be a cop magnet recently...
Kiwi import cop said he saw a nice old volvo.
Probably wanted a better look...

difference being a V70R is doing its very best to attract attention where a XC70 probably doesn't lol.

Also that cop seems to be more of enthusiast so thumbs up.

It's literally a factory turbo on a v70 t5. So it's such a minor thing and I've listed far more work to insurance companies with no issue. Mind you I like to get good service and price when something goes wrong rather than the cheapest insurance price for the year.
