We as title said, pretty much almost bought a V40 Cross Country, it's the t4 2.0 8 speed. Leather interior and front electric seats 2017 model for 45K and has 3 years free servicing as the missus get a deal through her work
Any one know of any issues before we commit @Philia_Bear and any one else in the know
Philia_Bear
8 speed trans means it's the Volvo motor
I've not heard anything bad outside of normal suspension wear issues
Get it with the adaptive cruise control pack
The xc suspension is stupid soft and ruins the handling over the non xc version all it does is raise the car 2 inches and provides reduced off-road traction over the stock one

Excellent @Philia_Bear thanks for that, the engine is the b4204t 140kw.
the mrs want the car, we drove the new XC60 T4, the v40cc D4 and the V40 t4, and have to say the V40cc t4 was my favorite

Ended up getting a 2015 V40 T5 R design. Fully optioned with 7500km, with the motor being a turbo and supposedly only req's servicing every 15000km? Is it recommend to service the car sooner or stick with the intervals and check oil level regularly as I don't believe the cars not gonna burn any oil in 15000km
Vee_Que
In the manual it will say for stop start driving, high speed driving, towing and a few other options, you do half oil change intervals. I'd do it anyway as I drive cars slightly hard.

6 months or 10k km which ever comes first has been my rule

Cheers guys

Nice Volvo! I stick to 10k services on our daily drivers regardless of what stupidly long interval the book says. It'll be appealing to a future buyer to see evidence of the more regular services.

Very flash Gav - hope you're enjoying it so far!

Yeah it's good, but the missus is always taking it. Still taking a while to get use to all the features it has

Yep. We do exactly the same thing. every 10k regardless and ensure that service requirements are met, inline with normal servicing.

I think that works okay with the newer cars at every 10k, but its worth noting with older Volvos the "major" service is every 45k so you either do it early at 40 or late at 50, hence why I do my services every 7.5k, so the "15k" intervals are still met as required and it gets an oil change at the halfway mark.

No Volvo ever made has had a major service at 45k
There are some time based ones which fall on 3 years
E.g. coolant and brake fluid
Otherwise the distance based stuff is just a multiple of the stupid idea of one oil change per 15km or 12 months

Mine is broken up a bit but it's pretty much 45k. Every 2 years coolant/brake fluid (so 30k but really it's pretty often so I usually leave the coolant at least to 45), every 45k is spark plugs, every 60k air filter (which for me is usually too long so it gets done at 45). That is straight from the Volvo service documents given to me by the dealer, which also matches what VIDA says. 02 XC70. Interestingly enough though Volvo specify my mums 06 XC70 (which is essentially the same car) as coolant/brake fluid at 30k, and the full major at 60k. They use exactly the same spark plugs so I wonder why they specified mine at 45k and mums at 60k. Seems a bit confusing but I just follow what the book says cos I don't really care that much if things get done slightly more often on my car, it's not exactly going to hurt it.

Very nice Gav and looks great in that colour too. Could absolutely see myself getting one of these in the future to replace the C30 when another little one comes along and more space is required.
Only question is do you get an early one that still had that awesome proper t5 or the update with the 2 litre with the bonus of flappy paddles?
Would love to hear people's thoughts on that on which they think is better.
Chris
Mmm @Dean I think you'll find not much space for little ones in a V40. Current gen Focus platform with thicker seats. It would work if they're out of car seats/boosters altogether, but not so much if still using them.
gavinh
We have a couple of kids and they seem alright in the back, it isn't much smaller than a P80 V70 inside
Chris
In or out of car seats/boosters though Gav?
I had an LW Focus (same platform) and it was fine in the back for kids and smaller adults but hard to imagine it working with modern child restraints.
gavinh
One in one out, yeah to be honest haven't really noticed much difference between the first gen v70, but 3 kids might be a squeeze
pastry
I'll be amazed if we can fit 3 child seats in the XC90!
