IIRC we had 350 front / 200 rear in the VN up on the hill...

Read an article about setting up a vehicle for drifting saying that race car stiff is out, not what you want for drifting. Saying a performance road setup is what you want. This was talking about s13’s most of the time so I’m not sure.

The 740 in question with a locked diff and 700lb front with 400lb rear iirc. Was a very skittish car turning any corner under power. When it was toned down to 300 rear it says still stiff but not as dangerous feeling.

They're very similar rates to the BC's I have in my car. 400lb (7kg) front, 336lb (6kg) rear. With the 23mm sway bar in the rear and the stock 21mm in the front, the car is very very smooth to slide, providing the roads are smooth as well. You will get axle hop on bumpier roads. It grips really well with semi slicks providing the roads are smooth. On bumpier roads you will bounce.
I daily drive the car everyday and it can be tedious on shitty roads going slow, but it's very bearable.

@ljk346 'race car stiff' depends on a heap of factors. 300lb in the rear would be suited for a grip car running really sticky slicks on a smooth sweeping circuit, but would be way too much in a different circumstance (bumpier roads, less grippy tyres). I highly recommend asking Ash Davies about suspension setups.

This is probably true for a car with a decent amount of horsepower, but in my experience a lower powered car slides better with stiffer suspension.
A lot of it comes down to individual driving style too, someone with an aggressive driving style probably requires more grip, someone with a more delicate style probably requires less grip.
Having said that this setup is very adjustable and I’m confident that when/if I end up with more power I will be able to dial it in to suit.

A 240 in a drifting application is interesting compared to many other platforms - it's very narrow in it's track, while still being fairly long in wheelbase. Comparatively too, they can be underpowered against something Nissan/Toyota or even LSx powered, so the 'drift' or push past the limit of mechanical grip or whatever you want to call it needs to happen differently.
In a 240 (and not a Nissan 240!), unless you've got oodles of horsepower on tap (and even then I'd debate it), increasing spring rate seems to be the best way to do it.

On top of that though there can be different philosophies on what the best way to go is.

eg. The Mustang RTRs campaigned by Vaughn Gittin Jnr in US Formula Drift, appear to be fairly softly sprung (particularly in the rear) compared to other cars.

However, it has 900hp, so couple this with a softer rear spring rate than less powerful cars and the transition and change of direction appears smoother, save for hiking a front wheel off the ground.

Compare this to the promo car that T8 built for SVG. The cars are quite different, with the T8 built car being a Supercar with modifications to suit.
It has 650hp - thats a big gap.
It doesnt appear to be as softly sprung and I'd expect that the philosophy to get it to do the same things as Vaughn Gittin Jnrs Mustang would be quite different - You've got very different schools of thought here.

If we look at some of the stuff happening in D1, the trend at the moment seems to be huge amounts of positive caster, even more steering lock, smaller wheel offsets but wider front track.
In short there's heaps happening on the front end that just wasnt happening 5-10 years ago.
Spring rates still vary from vehicle to vehicle, but more rate than a circuit racing car is common.

Unless there's a big shift in thinking, a narrow, low-powered, light(ish) weight car, with the balance of a 240 seems to like higher spring rates.

As with anyone that buys a new complete kit for a motorsport application, Dan will do some driving, we'll seek some feedback and swap over springs with alternatives if he chooses - we offer this free of charge (other than freight) for a given period.
Beyond that, we can sell a range of springs to suit the packages we offer, so that anyone with a setup we've provided has some springs with different rates to use as tuning tools.
