I've finally gotten around to replacing the headlining in my 1984 240 Estate and can't work out how the hell the rear view mirror is attached to the structure of the car. I don't particularly want to prise it with a screwdriver to reveal what has to be a couple of mounting screws as I just know I'm going to break it, has anyone removed one before? I can post an image if required....Thanks.
Doesn't matter, I got impatient and prised it off OK, I'll know for next time!
For future reference, grab the mirror by its stalk, and yank on it really hard. It'll pop right out.

Controlled violence every time!
Yeah I kind of worked it out myself but I had visions of the die-cast stalk shearing off in my hand! It pops right back in pretty nicely too. Also I don't understand why Volvo used hex-head screws instead of phillips head for the visor mounts, my 8mm socket wouldn't fit in the recess and I had to use flat nose jewellery pliers to undo them, sheesh....

For some unknown reason, Volvo got a hard-on for using Torx headed screws where Phillips or Posidrive heads would have been perfectly adequate. You can tell this by checking out the earlier models and how they used to use conventional heads in the very same places. The Sevens were bad enough, but by the time of the Nines, nearly every ploddy thing seemed to be a T20, T25, T27, or T30 Torx.

I picked up a set of these in my travels for about $30 or so.

They'll cover everything a weekend warrior like myself ever needs to undo on a 240, 700, 0r 900.
Thanks for the heads-up, I haven't come across many Torx head fasteners on my early 80's 240 but if I do I have a reasonably comprehensive set of Torx bits (including the annoying security ones with central pin), haven't had to work on anything later than 1984 as my other recently deceased car was a 244 from 1979, the later series's electrickery frightens me!
