Aye. Gonna have to wait 10 days before I can do anything, frustrating. Hopefully it's just belt and valves.
The missus said she herd a bearing noise coming from the front. So possibly the tensioner was on the way out?
Ex850R
I would have thought any tensioner or pulley would take a while to go, slowly getting louder?
gavinh
Yeah not sure, I only drive it when I'm on rnr or every 3rd week, probably gonna be cheaper and quicker and easier to drop a long block in it, if it is the timing belt

So going through my vin No YV1LZ5608W2505468, my engine is 56 and it's a 98. So will a B5254T drop in or B5254T.
Also with the price of part over here...there is a 96 850SE 2.5 for $750, assuming this would be a NA engine? Would this motor take a turbo? There is a lot of conflicting information out there on the old interweb.
Sorry for all the questions, just finished night shift and am tired

Get @iceton1975 to ship you a motor cheap enough couriered.
, @JeremyK had a later t5 one for sale, block off the vvt and have newer one.

Well the guy I had lined up to check the car over didn't turn up, has some other commitments.
So the missus and father inlaw loaded the car on the trailer and took it back the the house.
Ended up getting the missus to remove the timing cover......and to mine and her surprise the timing belt is intact and still in position, THERE IS A BUT.
The tensioner has spun the bearings and looks like from the photos the intake cam has jumped some teeth.
So what you guys recon, new belt, tensioner, pulley and do a compression test?
Oh yeah the dogs were glad to have the V70 back.

Replace the tensioner and retime first. See if it runs then go for option 2. You maybe lucky if it was at cranking speed.
gavinh
Yeah it happened at idle when the car stalled and Ash said she only tried to crack it over about 10 times? But still 10 times to many
gavinh
Missus (Ash) just sent me a pic of the 2 cam shafts, the timing marks are about 4-5 teeth out

Bugger.
It's most peoples reaction to keep trying to start it.
Is that rebuilt head still on ebay in Perth?
Was a bargain iirc?
Mark may have one on the shelf.
Or maybe, get an RN motor off a later model with the shit gearboxen, should be plenty at Wreckers.
gavinh
No checked for the head the other day, and there was me all optimistic and shite, hoping line up the dots, slap on new pulleys and belt and bang all fixed. Well it was nice whilest it lasted.
gavinh
Well ordered a belt from berry's, decent compression tester and some other goodies along with a Haynes manual.
I fly back home tonight and am Itchen it have a look and get started tomorrow morning!
So far bin chasing prices for engine, Heads, or even complete cars. I can get a head un reconditioned ranging from $100-600, fully reconditioned $1300.
Really struggling to find a complete B5254T with out VVT, and wreckers are fu@?ing useless over hear not even willing to help, with even suggesting an alternative or getting told the car is to old.
Last resort is a complete car and drop the subframe, and I can get a car from $600-2000
Ex850R
Looked at the way you can modify the vvt? Lock out the mechanism after removing the actuator?
Is that head still on ebay? It was in Perth.
Geez if it wasn't a big job I could send you a motor....
gavinh
Yeah I know, it some what frustrates me the attitude of the wreckers at times.
there is another guy on our Facebook group looking for a 2002 B5254T with VVT as well. Hopefully it will all come out in the wash tomorrow when I replace the belt.
I'm continplating going down the route of ordering the stuff from fcp, as the missus doesn't want to get rid of the car for at least 18 months to 2 years.

I haven't been on ozvolvo for a while (busy renovating an investment property).. just catching up... wow what crappy luck that it conked out right after you started giving it some tlc.
gavinh
So pulled the head this afternoon, I ended up removing the turbo from the exhaust manifold, which I will reattach before assy.
all in all with out removing the valves as I need a valve compressor as I only have a spring compressor, I have damaged all the exhaust valves but don't know if there bent.
the head it's self seems alright apart from one of the threads was stripped around the spark plug port.
I don't know if any one can answer this for me but my engine s/n is 1376038 and it has a hydraulic tensioner on it but according to the serial no it should have a mechanical tensioner?? can anyone fill me in on this and can a mechanical one be retro fitted?
will upload pictures tomorrow in the day light.
gavinh
Sorry @Ex850R head on Ebay?? I know there was one on gumtree which is gone, I have got the option of getting a head for $250 and the guy wants an extra $350 to machine and service it, then by the time I get a engine gasket set and head blots probably in it for $800-900
Ex850R
Mark at Berrys had some ready recoed ones on the shelf at one point, ask him?
gavinh
Aye, spoke to them the other week, more than likely give them a call the morn
