Well it has been a few months since the last up date.

As always with the P80's there is always something to be done, during October and November I replaced all the brake pads and rubber hoses then re-bled the brakes, as I work away I just ordered everything from rock auto, I think it was about $200-250 delivered from the states and 5 days delivery.

Fitted 5 new tyres a couple weeks ago to, nothing to fancy, Bob Jane xenons Z7

We just came back from a camping trip and the old girl done well with towing a fully loaded camper trailer. She was a bit gut less going up the hill to the dam, in second gear and screaming her head off at 4000rpm. Made it with out fault, looking like I might have to redo the strut tops again, I have started to hear a clunk when I'm reversing down the kurb in the drive on full lock.

The XC90 are the same aren't they? And heavy-duty the last ones I fitted were mhale and I don't think they are the best quality.

Is been a while, cars still going but needing a bit of love.

My welding on the passenger door check strap didn't hold up, closer look at it, the weld didn't penitrate deep enough, so will have to do that, the door cards are getting worse from the arm rest blowing out and seperating from the actual door card it looks like the heater core has developed a slight leak and I think the strut tops need doing again, (I should have listened to you @Ex850R when I replaced the struts).

All the joys of running a P80 I suppose. A 22 year old euro car never comes with out problems.

Me and the missus have been chatting lately about cars we have/are considering selling the V70XC in the next 8-12 month and down grading it to a Isuzu Jackroo or Rodeo as it has more space and torque for pulling the camper trailer,

But we are.... I dunno some what attach to the car, some times we hate it other times it's like an old dog, asides a couple of small issues it's probably been the most reliant Volvo I have owned in 20 years.

If we could some how increase the torque it would be an good towing car.

Well bin a while..... the car was going great till Monday just past, we where out camping and we took a drive to a ghost town (old sawmill) down the south west. Any way on the way back the wife was driving, we were going around a bend and the car hit a patch of pea gravel. Well the car got washed out and done a 180 down a 3ft embankment and then up the other side.

The biggest damage at the time was a sheared oil return on the radiator, was able to take one from the auto trans cooler on the other side of the rad as I have a separate trans cooler.

We couldn't close the bonnet completely, and the front bumper took most of the impact.

So we got the car back to the campsite and called Shannon's. Long story short the car was a financial write off $6100 to repair.

The car was running fine when I drive it back the 5 or so km on Monday, now we have the car back from Shannon's the car won't even tick over and it's running extremely rich.

Anyway the wife wants me to repair it or see what's wrong with it.

Question is a 98 V70XC worth the hastle or at the end of the day should I just part it out??

Sad to see it , it did good though!

No injuries i hope.

If they value it like that its still quite a lot to pay doing work yourself.

The V70R i had was in a off like yours and busted the oil hose too. It shoots oil out pretty quick and did some wear to the engine before shutdown.....

I suspect you will find it needs a mptor too so really is uneconomical.

Plus, the time you spend on it that is very precious compared to family time and maybe having a not quite right car you always have issues with and learn to hate......

Aye she did @Ex850R , will have a quick look at the engine, but the rad, intercooler and condenser are all damaged beyond repair, the intercooler is missing it's the lower half of the plastic, the condenser has a bow in it and the rad has tore it's mounting off.

Mention you cant do it and paying for it means no new kitchen appliances or handbags or shoes for her.......

And it will never be what it was before, repaired cars never are as good, i gave up on my pristine low mileage 855R as it had $8K of repair needed. I bought it back as i couldn't bear to part with it but it sat for two years undrr a tarp so i sold it to part out.

Your xc has sentiment value, its lost now and the body has been compromised for future accidents.........

My R motor had been rebuilt too due to water ingestion so a way better repaired proposition than your very old and high mileage xc.

Get another opinion from a guy that will convice the wife, you make a bit o cash out of the driveline too when parted.

I'd have to agree with @Ex850R It has clear sentimental value but otherwise not worth repairing unfortunately. Only do it if you really can't bear to be without it, otherwise it's time to move on.

I can bear to get rid of it, it's the wife and kids...... Her father said the same as me so I recon it will be getting wrecked for parts or sold as is and be some ones else's.

What a shame it ended up like this but you all survived it . If you do brake it , you could keep the shell and mount it in the garden somewhere , think that's what i'd do , or make a trailer from the back end for camping or a bbq front end ?

It such an unfortunate thing to happen. ? However if you do part it out, I know there are a few people keen on p80 awd parts in WA. Even I would be keen on at least 10 parts.

As above. Always tough to lose one when there is sentimental value.

I too, however, will join the circling vultures - I'm keen on some of the cosmetic stuff. :)

I'm just waiting to see if some one is willing to buy it to put back on the rd, if not there is s guy Over here willing to take the whole car for bit for his car.

At the moment the kids are loving having a full size car to play with in the back garden.

Since the car was written off we have now purchased a 2013 xc60 D5 R design with polestar tune.

The car is great, but having the slightly later V40 there is a big let down with the sensus navigation in the XC60, is there an upgrade to bring it up to the standard of the V40?

@Ex850R Well it's been a while, and it looks like I got the car back, So Maise well carry on this thread.

I got the car back on Saturday and with a few small issues, central locking not working and oil seeping out of some of the bolts on the cam cover.

With the central locking all it was, was the thermistor in the motors, I ended up replacing them with small pieces of copper and with help of the 850 OBD II I reporgrammed a spare remote.

the cam cover I tapped the damaged threads with an M8 x 1 tap and replaced the bolts, ran the car up and looks to have solved the issue of oil weeping out the bolt holes.

next one to tackle is the abs solnoid module, it's been resoldered in the last by myself, so looking for another one, then get the blown door cards sorted

Aye it's good have her back, she has been named bertha as in big bertha, it's been her name for years.

I'll have a search for that thread, I wouldn't mind getting some spacers made up for the springs just to give here that bit of extra clearance a manual conversion and squeeze a few extra HP's.

I saw song longer suspension set ups somewhere.

Certainly BNE have good stuffs.

You could make any longer shock fit and suitable springs I’m sure. Even more comfortable.

Nice to see another V70XC. Lucky that you have a 98', no ETM issues to worry about.

I have brand new spring spacers made by Adam Nonis. He's a respected name in the lifted P80 crowd. Still in the box too, I'll probably never get around to fitting them. PM me if you're interested.
