I have been thinking about what @Philia_Bear is saying. If the general consensus is that a wiring issue is the cause of the crazy wipers and likely other stuff then I need to look at what has changed since I swapped over the motor. The only variable is the engine loom as I left the 2006 AWD loom on the engine and dropped it straight in assuming, incorrectly it appears, that they would be the same. Given that everything else is exactly the same and none of the wiring other than the engine loom was swapped it seems the logical solution.
Next question becomes, can I pull the loom off the engine without having to drop it out of the car. My gut feel is that I can't, at least not without pulling the radiator and inter cooler to get access to the front of the engine.
This wouldn't normally be a problem except someone might have decided to fill the radiator with new coolant which I will now need to try and catch so that I am not wasting fluids. The engine and trans fluid should be ok as I will just be lowering the engine not pulling it out completely.
I may also have to see if the kind gentleman that bought my old engine is willing to swap the looms over.
Cheers

You wont need to drop the engine out. Half of the loom runs through the front bar to the powersteering and rh wheel area. The other half across the top and front of the engine and a small loom runs across the firewall.
What modules are active (green) when you plug vida in?
Nelpd96
Only about 5 of the 20 or so, I will hook it up tomorrow and get a screen shot. The majority of them don't seem to be getting power.
Nelpd96
Well, it is alive and running. Plenty more to do but the main thing is that it starts and runs so I am going to call that a win. Thanks to @Philia_Bear for the advice and handing over the old loom. I am away for work this week and head off on a trip through the Simpson Desert and central Australia next week so it will be a long time between updates. Will luck I should have it on the road and running by the end of August.
Cheers

So I have just gotten back from 5 weeks away. Managed to get a bit done over the weekend and was able to drive the vehicle up the driveway under its own power for the first time since I bought it. Just need to bleed the brakes from the 320mm conversion and see how it all goes but should be right to hit the end of August target for having it on the road.

Well, it is all back together and running. I have just done a quick lap up the street and back but everything seems to be working as advertised. Puts the power down well and pulls up fine with the brake conversion. I was somewhat concerned that I would not be able to bleed the system properly but it appears to be fine. Green all round on VIDA so just need to take it in for a blue slip and get on with driving the thing.

I was lucky.... I picked the car up with a buggered motor for $1500. The lady selling didn't really know what was in there just lowered springs. It wasn't till I got home and cleaned it up that I realised what I had. Car has 250,000 on it but the replacement engine and box only 128,000km. Should be fun to tinker with. Just need to offload the AWD parts car.

Yep still have the VIDA. Was looking at areas for headlight leveling on the weekend for someone else but didn't have much luck. Having said that more than happy to plug it in and see what we can see. Where are you in Sydney?

Car is booked in for a blue slip on Saturday morning so fingers crossed. Also I have no sound from the right hand side speakers and no it isn't the fader on the head unit. Any ideas? I would have thought it was a dodgy speaker if it was only one but given it is both maybe it is something else....
Philia_Bear
Speakers are wired up together
Could be a pin in the amp connector or the connector on the door
Nelpd96
Might get you to have a look when you come over to look at the other s40
Vee_Que
I rewired my 98 s40 last week for a head unit that isn't useless in the modern era, the tweeters run seperate into the 816. I had to wire them together for the good, modern head unit
Nelpd96
@Vee_Que interesting point regarding the tweeters being separate as there is still sound coming out of the tweeter in the front though it is very quiet. I will have to have a dig through VIDA and see what I can find.
