Plan is to do the steering rack swap tonight, drop the AWD box Tues night. Timing belt Wed night. Pick up the new FWD Box Thursday and button it up for install on the weekend. Will leave the 320mm brakes and other bits until I know it is running ok with the new motor in there.
Nelpd96
Timing belt done, will try and get the AWD box off tonight. I don't have much room to play with.

Have got sway bar bushes coming tomorrow then assuming there are no issues with the gearbox I should get it back in the car this weekend.

great news Paul all the best mate

RIghto so everything is back in and there is fluids in the car but it is not happy. It is dropping a brake warning message which might just be related to low fluid as I have not bled the brake yet from the 320mm swap and it has the immobiliser see manual. Finally the wipers are going bat shit crazy and I can't turn them off the fuse is now pulled so I don't scratch the windscreen.
All this points to some sort of wiring issue but because the immobiliser is doing it's thing I am not getting power to most of the modules so I can't read them with the Dice.
The key still locks and unlocks the car without issue and I am able to turn the key but I am a little lost so if anyone has a cunning idea please let me know.
Cheers
Paul

Check ABS harness plugged in correctly. Had an issue with that. Otherwise check fuse box plugged in correctly under passenger footwell.

Neither of those have been touched since I changed the engine. I have checked the CEM plugs to make sure that they are secure as that is the first thing that pops up when you do a google search. I am not expecting an easy fix. Is there any chance that the pin out is different between the 2005 and 2006 as I retained the engine harness on the 2006 engine to make it easier to swap over.
sucksqueezebangblow
Did u pull all the plugs from the CEM and clean it up?
This worked for me when I had flashing dash when hitting potholes or steering swiftly

I had a fiddle last night I would note however that I didn't have this problem before I pulled the old engine and the car has not moved since. All modules remain as they were before the swap. Will try putting everything else back together and check ask the plugs....
Chris
I have a vague recollecting of Berry mentioning random issues like the wipers going nuts after pulling and refitting the stereo (i.e. interfering with the car's electrics). if you don't get anywhere, maybe give them a call for some ideas

You didn't swap ECU's did you?
Nelpd96
Nope I was very deliberate about that as I know that the CEM and BCM talk to the ECM to confirm the key code for starting.

The engine looms definitely changed a few times over the p1 series. Double check the cem plugs as the wipers go nuts when one of those connectors is removed. Awd and fwd bcm modules are usually different

My thought is then a change in wiring harness
Nelpd96
Yep that is the only thing I can come up with. Wanna swap
?
