Andy;107397 wrote Incorrect. I've got the ok to engineer a 5.3LS with a turbo and that came from Vicroads...
The stock LS pcm is very tunable using Hptuners and can easily pass any 1980s emission standards.
With an exhaust and a basic tune the LS will easily output 400hp. For a light car like the 240 400hp will be enough for drifting and the engine and gearbox will be on a holiday.
Plus if you want to sell it it will sell pretty damn quickly.
Which is incorrect?

5.3ls isn't a local ls. It's an American pick up engine. Along with the 4.8

Haven't we covered this in a few threads?
Vicroads has a spreadsheet outlining it.
But your an engineer right? I guess here is the grey area in action.

Vee_Que;107405 wroteI'm not convinced the engine will be on a holiday at high revs, with stock internals, you read about people upgrading them pretty quickly because the original motor goes bang. But hey, real world issues to face once it drives?
Rev limit at 5200rpm and it will last for eons
Lol and not make the power it should either.

Even with a 5200rpm limit it will make more than enough power to drift with

An R151 from a 2wd hilux with the 1GR motor is basically the same as a R154 but with a lousy first gear and a fraction of the cost. I paid $600 for mine and have adapted it to mate with a B230. Havent run it yet so don't know what it will be like to live with. Worst case down the track I will save my $ and get an R154 which will slot right in its place.

Also weaker synchros and other accumulated wear from being in a Ute.

Let us know how it goes when it does go in. Wouldn't mind a cheaper gearbox conversion
