Ooh, nice Saab!
Pretty sure bosh is the OEM so that from Super Cheap is fine. Supercheap should also have that tool for the lock ring that you will need too.

Yep it was a good 6 years! I have this one in the shed - bearing failure as well!
Thanks for the feedback. Might go for that pump and see if I can limp on a bit longer.

Something went bang and it stopped. I'd be thinkin something other than the pump. Disconnect the fuel line from the intake manifold and attach a tube from it to a jar and turn it over. Should be easy to see if pump is working or not. Maybe have one of those foam extinguishers in one hand when doing this(?). Someone here chime in if there's a safer way to test.

I was going to feed it some start ya bastard and see if it fires? Could do that though, I have a fuel line disconnect set.

Can the obd2 generic reader view things like oil pressure etc? If so, maybe it can read fuel pressure too. Fuel pressure is linked to ignition so it may not fire anyway.
Stock pistons are strong fwiw, rings aren't cheap but an engine rebuilder will put new ones In when they hone the bores for you. The rods are the weak point but not with the turbo you've got. Going to a td04 19t would stress the rods though.

Good idea, it should show that on Torque. Worth a quick look. Again I'm sidelined with other duties but should be on it in an hour or so. Thanks everyone - I will beat this bloody thing!!!
pastry
You're right @bigal, I don't think it's the fuel pump. Can hear it prime, so I bled the fuel rail and turned the key, it was full again each time.
Couldn't get a read of pressure via OBD2 BTW.
Took the top cover off the engine, bit oily in there. Belt intact. Ignition coil 1 seemed to perhaps be loose, someone has snapped off the securing bolt at some point.
Breather hose is attached with a worm clamp which I'm sure isn't stock? Dodgy.
Not sure what else to look at so think I'll have it towed and transplant a healthy engine in rather than rebuild this one.
Chris
Seeing you paid 3500 and Philia Bear reckons 1500 for a good motor you're still doing OK so far.

Random thought.. crank angle sensor. But that's just guessing and it's going down that expensive guessing game path. The bang concerns me.. If it was decent enough and not gone since then surely something vital broke inside.
Suggestion - bbq n beer day at your place and get some ozvolvo guys to come and help.
pastry
Yep it's not all doom and gloom, I'm just cataloging the saga
bigal
I'd love to help but i'm stuck on a little island.
bigal
Look at the bright side.. it can only get better from here on. (Unless someone torches the car).

Did u get it home?

Could it have been a hose blowing off under boost?
I had similar symptoms when the hose to the idle solenoid blew off on my 850 T5. Large air leak after mass air flow confuses ECU and engine is too rich to run.

It's down the street, but yeah be alright if the garbo wipes it out tomorrow - I'd be up about 5k! Hah
It did sound a bit like a big hose, checked the hot and cold side and they looked intact, but sounds like you're talking about smaller hoses. Wouldn't have crossed my mind. I'll poke around.
pastry
well, i wasn't inspired enough to find anything else. Had a good look but think my knowledge of this engine means I'll never find it without proper help.
So, decision made. Transplant it is!

Yay!

Time for good gearbox flush, cooler added etc?
pastry
whatcha mean, an uprated/aftermarket oil cooler for the trans?
I'm sure it could do with a good flush though, yeah
