You can jumper/bypass the pressure switch temporarily to test it.
You may be able to swap the A/C relay with a headlight relay or something to test

After clearing codes, the one that returns right away is the pressure sensor range/performance fault.
Don't much like the ignition coil codes though ^

thanks Tim. No idea how to bypass it - I'll read up.
Otherwise I guess i might need one of these?

Truth be told, the AC guy said he didn't like the look of the compressor itself, either – with the rubber on the front of the pulley coming away. I have a spare compressor, naturally!
I'm in Canberra tomorrow picking up my Saab engine from Phillip Heads, BTW

I'll be out at autotech in hume for a dyno day from 9am till 4pm. Will be putting my c30 and a mates 740 on the dyno. There's a show and shine too if you have time to drop in

Thanks Tim - would’ve loved to see that. Too busy chasing about with the kids though - some other time!
How’d you get on?

Some new work / fixes..
- Had to replace the exhaust control solenoid (VVT), thankfully had a used one. It was throwing code p0027 and surging / losing power under load. Seems to be ok, keeping an eye on that.
- I need to replace the AC compressor, clutch is fucked – suspect that's the noise I was getting on startup, until the computer said no. Got a spare on shelf.
- I've got a new AC pressure switch to put in, hopefully that and the compressor solve my AC issues once and for all..
- but I still have a vacuum leak to find, there's a bit of whoosing under load which I don't think is normal.. sigh..
Otherwise it's running jus' fine thank you ma'am.

How's the big swedish beast goin this month?

Slow and steady mate.
Not done the AC compressor yet, or the steering module, or even an alignment.. really need to find the time, front tyres are wearing terribly on the outer edges. I think it's contributing to the horrible ride over corrugations.
Still surprises me how much it wants to get up and go at times.. then frustrates me at others when it so lumbering!
We're only getting average of 16.1 – might as well have the V8!
But yep, it's still a cracking workhorse!
not sold yours, then?
jb1986
My brother bought one of the V8 models a little while ago, surprisingly economical compared to mine :/

16.1L/100km? Woah - interesting. Mine settles on 11.4L. If I go hardcore on the hypermiling, avoid the hills and gently accelerate home I can get er to 11.1. This is mainly highway driving though. If i get next to a bogan in an excel or magna at the lights the economy goes out the window. Still rocking no middle seats.. it's fun cheap power.
The desire to sell has died off a bit of late. It's been behaving and I can't afford a new shape xc60 or 90.
Went and looked at a new xc60 in hobart on weekend while I was down south - wow they are beautiful! Just a look.. not a drive. I didn't go much on the new xc40.

Lots of hills around here which probably accounts for some of the economy problem, but I must locate that boost leak too.
I did an oil and filter change yesterday.
Still got my AC job to do before summer rolls around, and I could do with replacing the radiator, which has a (very) slow leak.

Did you modernize the "V O L V O" lettering on the back of your xc90? I see you have the wide spacing. Interested to know how you achieved that look.
pastry
yes i did, i bought the updated "part" - was about $40.
i'm not sure it's 100% level but it looks pretty good. Maybe it's easier to center/level on the update models with the chrome strip.
And unfortunately when i polished out the old lettering I was in the shed, not natural light – I didn't quite get it all, so there's some ghosting.
But yeah all in all, I think it's a good change.

Now what other more modern goodies can I put on my old xc90. The updated headlights would be cool but how much work is in that I wonder.

And the Alcantara boot for it.

haha jesus, bling galore!
You can get those wider wheel arch mouldings, side steps, sliver roof rails, painted door handles and bumpers, and of course the much nicer seats with stitching detail etc from the newer models.
I don't drive much at night so it took me a while to realise that the cluster I retrofitted does not have illuminated numbers, so can't see what speed you're going. I need to solder a few things.Only changed it because the bottom LHS info screen wasn't working. So I wouldn't massively recommend that upgrade..
If there's one thing I know how to do, it's create work.

When fitting that emblem I'd recommend using brickies line and masking tape to get them level. It's hard because of the curve of the hatch. You only really get one shot – they grab the paintwork like an orange buffoon grabs pussy.
