Yeah, and @AshDVS , if he's around (I think he's a bit preoccupied with house moving), I'm pretty sure he knows the ins and outs of getting springs made up, as DVS 240 front springs are a custom job (or at the very least a custom-modified King spring or similar)
Pastry's suspiciously cheap XC90 2.5T
@Ex850R did mention doing that, suppose I should! paging @AshDVS – whatcha think?
In the interim I've fired off a couple of emails with details to get the ball rolling. Usually get further faster on the phone but it's Friday and I'm meant to be building a little web app....

Should be sub $600 for a set of custom king springs
Out the bottom is easiest :)
That's brilliant. Can't see what's raised this chassis up?
Fair play though, what kind of sorcery is holding it up??ToomanyVolvos;121233 wroteThat's brilliant. Can't see what's raised this chassis up?

Amazingly it seems like nobody has ever built a custom spring for these things, despite them being about since 2003.
I might try contacting Eibach about the spec of their discontinued springs.. my german ist nicht gut, and I'm sure they'll be all "das ist our IP, schweinhund!", but worth an Aussie crack eh?

I like the sound of the R spring option if you can find a wrecked one.
How about just stick the oem's back in and try the ipd sway bars? (I know I've mentioned it before, they have me excited) Gee the reviews are good! I recommend giving them a read..
https://www.ipdusa.com/products/4892/109280-front-rear-anti-sway-bar-kit-xc90
example:
"Absolutely amazing. Every aspect of driving the car much improved. Handling in curves of course much better. But also straightline highway driving, steering feel, windy conditions, lack of body roll, even just turning into driveways at low speed you can feel the difference. As far as I am concerned its the best mod you can make for the money."

They look nice but 499 USD is already quite steep IMO, bit then add $477.86!!!!!!!USD in freight.
Something has gone horribly wrong with shipping costs from the USA.

yeah, i'm not paying that Al, sorry mate!
Enquired on a few R wrecks but spring etc already gone. An R would still probably have Nivomats at the rear anyway?
I've got all the mount hardware on the way, so if I can't come up with a better option I'm going to stick my current struts and springs back in for now, and at least make sure the engine runs! :joy:
Probably sensible.
That reminds me – best chase the guy who's had my subframe for the last 2 weeks. It's 4 bushings, man!

Does this help? Some detailed info on the Eibach springs..pastry;121729 wroteAmazingly it seems like nobody has ever built a custom spring for these things, despite them being about since 2003.

Apologies for the late check-in.
I'm playing a bit of catch up (on many fronts! lol)
We can offer H&R, Eibach and some custom options for non-coilover spring solutions.
As a generalisation, Eibach are typically a linear spring and ride more firmly than the corresponding H&R option.
H&R are, typically, (depending on what model vehicle) a progressive spring and ride is a little more comfort focused.
For corresponding spring sets, Eibach will have a little less ride height too.
Of course, it's always best to think of springs as only part of the package overall and select a suitable shock.
Eibach offerings tend to be nicer with higher spec'd shocks, while it probably isnt as critical with H&R offerings.
Lets say you wanted a custom set for it -
As a minimum, we'd need a sample spring of what you have now and some data on how you'd like to change it.
In an ideal world, I'd get to have a drive of it first and then we'd pop it on a set of race scales to better understand corner weights, etc and how we might want to change it.
With a sample of the springs here, I could easily grab what is required to have a custom set made up.
One-off sets/pairs will vary in price and I could estimate that once I have a spring here, have measured it and requested a quote.
Our 240 springs as an example are a custom made spring, made to our spec from scratch for us. They're a low-volume production run, hence they're more expensive than an off the shelf King Springs pair for example.
Our current offering is our second iteration of our own spring, the first being a one-off set via the method described above.
We also have another offering in that space, with more rate and lower ride height that we can offer where coilovers might not be an option.
Drop me an email if you have any further questions, etc

Mike, take some back to USA! Once into that market, we get cheaper springs! Ash?Philia_Bear;121811 wrote@AshDVS

Great @AshDVS – I'll email you.
For our needs I'm really only after something pretty standard like the H&R's or Eibach's, but would image@Philia_Bear 's V8 would be more deserving of a proper custom solution.
As I've been unable to find anything until now I've been considering instead buying a Pro-Kit (Eibachs + B6's) for my Saab 9-5 wagon, which also needs doing. Thankfully these can still be had off the shelf!

@AshDVS can you get or make cheaper sway bars than the ipd ones yet be of the same thickness and performance? For a xc90 of course.
Latest package came with the correct timing belt tensioner for the newer engine I'm putting in, so finally got the belt, water pump, and idler done tonight.
Working through the other stuff, including....
- Installed the s60 front seats
- Cabin air filter
- Started treating the exterior plastic trim
- Painted the front skid plate with matte charcoal, interested to see how it look
- Dropped out the front strut assembly ready for rebuilding
- Changed the rear Volvo emblem for the long version.. almost got it straight, too..
- Lots of cleaning...
still haven't got my subframe back, called in again today - they oriented one of the control arm bushes incorrectly so the need to sort that out.
Not too long until I can start bolting it all up.

I've looked into having our own bars made up before but I dont see enough demand (from direct enquiries) to come anywhere near covering the costs of setting up for small(ish), repeatable, production runs.

New mounts?

yes, might get lost here and there despite the labels! Expect a few clueless photos.Philia_Bear;122530 wroteThe rewiring is what will kill you
Torque figures are also proving hard to get hold of for things like steering rack nuts. Bit of a pain not having the workshop app!
yep, all of them – top to bottom, front to back, plus subframe and control arms. Wasn't too impressed with the job they did with the control arms though – front bushes a bit unevenly installed.Ex850R;122535 wroteNew mounts?
I might also get the iPD inserts for the subframe, and some new bolts.
Go for Kaplhenke Delrin subframe bushes? Are they same as P80?
- Edited
I found the ipd inserts made a huge difference, but as the snoopmister mentions the kaplhenke delrin bushes might be a better option while you have everything stripped.
The ipd ones are probally ment for a quick fix as you can do it be just dropping the bolts out.
Reading your post makes me want to get on with the v70xc, now it is the second car it will make it easier to work on as it's not getting used as the daily and now my car now, I will have to sell my 240

I didn't to be honest, just went with the Febi bushings from FCP. Too late now, I had them pressed in – but not to worry, they'll probably see the car on to an eventual new owner, especially with the iPD inserts.
My aim is to have the old lump back on the road by December. But other than organising the wiring a bit and plugging in the first load of easy ones, no further updates to share – I had to mow the lawn.
Great that my efforts give you some motivation@gavinh . Just keep plugging away...

Aye that's all we can do, when the missus hasn't got a heap of jobs for me to do when I'm back.
Missuses always have jobs...
If they want them done so quick they can learn how to...
If one day you magically get to the end of that list there would be 2 more, dig a hole and get in it. She takes the shovel and whacks you over the head and fills in hole.
Don't do so many jobs Gav!

Well it's kinda my own fault, I can't sit still. I use to be.......what they called hyper active or now adhd I suppose, and just haven't grown out of it 30 years later

i'm always looking for jobs too, just not always the ones my wife might prefer!
I seem to have managed that one of getting her to do it - I got despatched to Bunnings at 645 last night to get the sand paper so she could sand back the grill surround for the HJ...Ex850R;122606 wroteMissuses always have jobs...

99% wired up, the downpipe has to go back on for the last two sensors and that should be it.

Left to do..
- connect the driveshaft
- Bolt up downpipe and connect midsection
- Heat shield
- Spark plugs and coils
- Rebuild struts and install
- new Drop links in
- Pull pass side stuck cv from box :-(
- CVs in, hubs on etc
- Brakes on, install new pads, wheels on etc
- Lights in, bumper bits on
- Bonnet and catches etc
- Anything I've forgotten or not torqued..
- Test drive???

I always apply the 90-90 rule, so I've only got 130% of the job left to do.
Flamin' passenger side cv will not come out. Bastardo!
The boot separated when I originally pulled it off the s60, thought I'd just get it out later. Nope.
