Fuel tank should be emptied to if it was sitting long time.
Beema41's Car Hunt - 144 or early 244 (or 264 apparently) wanted
Great suggestion. Number 2 on the list. I assume they have a drain plug? Maybe I should do the filters too? It would be easier at home though.Ex850R;12481 wroteFuel tank should be emptied to if it was sitting long time.
Not sure on local clubs, maybe @Spac can suggest one?

I wouldn't bother with the Mobil 1, I'd go with Penrite HPR 10 as it's full synthetic and is half the cost of Mobil 1 with the same ratings. The drain plug is a 10mm sqaure plug if you can get it off. Oil filter is a Z89.
Drain plug 10mm, female or male?
Ordinarily I'd say the same but real world testing in my 760 showed Mobil 1 hung together better for longer.Vee_Que;12494 wroteI wouldn't bother with the Mobil 1, I'd go with Penrite HPR 10 as it's full synthetic and is half the cost of Mobil 1 with the same ratings. In my XC70 I run Castrol Edge Fully Synthetic 0w40. What's the owners manual on a 264 say should be in it?
You need a male socket.
My real world testing disagrees with you, 80,000km of it, the changing is more important. Anything synthetic and 10w-40 is what you want. I used to even run 10w40 diesel spec oil for 20,000km.

Why run such thin oil? We live in a hot climate, no need for it even on your car. Waste of money if you change oil every 5-10000km. Owners manual is 10w-40 for Australia.
I run the aforesaid oil in my XC70 because there is a big sticker in the engine bay that states Volvo recommends Castrol 0w40.
The 264 I have purchased is supposedly been sitting for several years and only run occassionally. It has either 170k or 200k (I can't be sure) but they are relatively low k's. If it's all log booked I'm hoping I won't have to touch the top end but I may lift off the covers and have an inspection at some stage. I'm told the engine when run is very tight and no rattles or noises. Let's hope the oil changes have been kept up to date.

I changed oil & filter at 5000km regularly. There's over 200,000km on both engines so I guess we're both right ;-)Vee_Que;12529 wroteYou need a male socket.

They do need tappet adjustment along the way. While covers are off shine a light or if you have the snake video camera look down the front of the motor for timing chain adjuster position.
I still think it's a waste of money going for the racing spec oil on daily drivers. They don't get that hot in normal use and those oils are meant to make for extended intervals. And as a said. Penrite oils are synthetic and have the same ratings the mobil or castrol have.

Tappet adjustment? Hope it's not like my wife's honda accord v6, 24 valves and front wheel drive which meant the rear three cylinders were against the fire wall! It took half a day!
No where near that bad. Get the 264 Haynes manual. Worth every cent!
I might have a 760 manual, in my box of old Volvo goodies, wonder if that is close?
They may be. I've found the 264 manual for the engine side of things and electrical to be very thorough compared with newer haynes manuals.
Found one on Ebay @ $12.50 in Sydney. It's on its way.Vee_Que;12623 wroteThey may be. I've found the 264 manual for the engine side of things and electrical to be very thorough compared with newer haynes manuals.
