  • Beema41's Car Hunt - 144 or early 244 (or 264 apparently) wanted

I sold my 71 164e last year. Now want another ovlov, have got cash and 1923 gramophone sigh 78rpm record collection to trade. Greg Canberra
Converting a 264 to a 244 or replacing the old V6 Renault POS......

Just wondering if this can be done economically, I don't want to fit a Chevy!
If it's manual, I would be keen to buy/trade a late B230 motor and trans for it... I want to manualise my 264 :-)
It's not a bad motor actually. When in good condition. It's not hard to do though. Buy 244 and swap parts over. What's wrong with the current motor mechanically? Im guessing you're into bmws otherwise. They are a real POS ;)
Ah, you had to ask, now my eyes are flinching and my nervous tick has returned! I once had a 1980 264 Californian, beautiful car to drive however when the cam chain let go it cost me the value of the car to repair. You'd think I would've learnt from that, but no I backed that up with a 1987 760 Sedan, once again I got burnt when the head gasket blew! $3000 dollars later I had a meltdown and vowed never ever ever to by another v6 Volvo. Having said that I very much like the upmarket specs of the v6's. Thus my mind has turned to the best of both worlds, the bullet proof 4 cylinders fitted into the v6 body. Amen
PS the beema reference relates to my motorcycle habit, my last four bikes have been BMWs. Now I've never owned the car but their bikes are absolutely the best. Shame Volvo never made one. So with my fascination of European vehicles, you can see I have my automobiles covered by Volvo and bikes by BMW and when you think about it they're not far from each other when manufactured. My XC70 has bits built in Belgium & my F800 has bits built in Belgium. Thankfully nothing from France with the Renault stamp!!!!!
So.... Is it a manual?
I'm only talking generically, don't have any particular car in sight, yet!
Ah ok. Head gasket should not Cost that much. How many kms on it? Something add simple as checking the chain with the rocker cover off will prevent the snapping issue with regular checks. Head gaskets... well they are open bore and I'd original still 30 years old. Where are you located?
Canberra. Sounds like you know your stuff, and you're trying to convert me, maybe......
I think there is a manual on gumtree, is that the best option? I thought the autos were pretty good.
Poo... Oh well... Good luck. There is a fine 264 with B23 and manual belongings to @volvodriverman in el primo conditions ;-)
Is it for sale? How mucho?
He will need to contact you...
I believe it may be...
