So I have recently received my Volvo CR2170 back from Craig Rasmussen. Well to say I'm happy with his conversion is a bit of an understatement, I'm well impressed, looks completely factory and very easy to work and the sound quality is excellent. I could have simply popped down to jb hifi and fitted an after market head unit and spent $100-200, but I wanted to keep it looking simple with the ability to play MP3. I highly Recommend his services. He has a advert on the Volvo Victoria club in the for sale section.

How do you switch between radio and MP3?
gavinh
The button above the LD switch

Same fella that has the advertisement in rolling?

Yeah that will be him, sound guy to deal with.

I guess the next step is Bluetooth connectivity. That would be ace.

Funny that We speak on this Bluetooth thing. Stumbled across this this morning.
These units for the pv and 120 have usb Nd Bluetooth.
Looks like it's more popular and easier than I thought.

They have been on eBay for years now at a cheaper cost...
I personally don't care for that originality, not as functional as a new headunit....

Just sadly for the older cars, they don't suit, or tend to look any good.
Definitely not era specific, as you would tend to say.
It's partly the reason I've removed mine completely.
The head unit I'll eventually install, is a modern multimedia unit (mechless) and that will hide in the glovebox mounted to the dash body.

With everything at home controlled by your phone, the same can be done in the car
So a remote amp, receiver with Bluetooth is all you need.
deleted_user_160
Ultimately you don't even need a receiver.
Phone direct to amp.
Though give. I wouldn't use an external amp for anything in the 142 I wouldn't bother. Cluttering it up. The head unit would be sufficient.
I have considered the direct amp set up with the wagon though

This is why I want a carputer....
Use the phone hotspot for internets, GPS in the carputer, so as to not use the phone I like to keep it separate to a degree.
I do want a floor mount stalk for a smaller ipad type device, Nexus 7 maybe for this function as I like a screen when parked.
Still something to be said for the functions of a double DIN H/U with dedicated buttons though, for keeping eyes on road....

Using a phone... How often do you end up with the phone flat when using it all day? Nope. I always use a cd or USB drive, I dont have an unlimited data plan so will not stream either. And my house isn't controlled wirelessly either. Most people don't because they aren't mega rich.
Era specific? what a load. Later head units have gone in cars since day one. It doesn't get more points at a car show on a car that is enjoyed to be driven, not pampered.

Even poor students use Pandora, Spotify etc with Bluetooth phone connect. That is the new home connectivity. PayTV or streamed from laptop ontrolled by phone is too.
Somehow my phone is plugged in and charged anytime its in the car, the wonders of tech...

Optus don't log data use for Facebook, Pandora, spotify and lots of others.
Which is quite handy.
I personally feel a modern head unit in a classic car. From Euro to muscle and hotrod. Is an eye sore.
Of course with the exception of those that's that are significantly modernised.
Les, the downside to running direct is the use of a phone/electronic device which is a no go.

I know, that's why I prefer a double DIN unit with lots of station buttons and a cd player really. mp3 music quality is rubbish and quite noticeable in a P80 sound system as brittle and tinny lacking dynamic range and quality.
Any use my mp3 connector box, a Yatour one, gets is the girls and their kpop they want when mates are with us, that crap is tinny, low dynamic range anyway!!
I used my phone connected this way on long commutes to work in Western District, only as no radio worth listening too out there. Geez, in my Cressida I had a boom box so I could plug in phone and ipod as std radio had nothing.

Maybe the ones you know directly. But 90% don't, and i know a lot more students given I'm a lot closer to the age range...
If your phone is always plugged in, you've killed your Battery by never turning off services running and. Not taken notice of the battery life indicator.
Eyesore? Lucky you don't own the cars that have them that like to be practical!

My Motorola runs a battery control, the battery is lasting fantastically thanks for asking.
Funnily enough I have a very large family, so does the missus, we feed a multitude of young people every so often and discuss young people things of all sorts.
Listen to you ye young whispers napper! Disrespecting your elders like that! In my day the young were seen and not heard, maybe you were not brought up properly. Not like me, I know how to treat and talk to people Ey. Us old buggers are all class.
I too dislike the latest new fangled wirelesses in old cars, I remember SW, LW and MW tube ones were in cars, not that we had a car, we had bicycles if we were lucky or went on a bus after walking.
One day you grow up and realise I am right and you are wrong. At that point you will be shouting at the TV, cursing those young whipersnappers. Ha ha.
Love a Sunday stir.

Lithium ion battery systems ha e over charge protection. Same reason our phones don't die when they are charged over night. Just like battery tools etc.
There are plenty of people that relocate modern headunits to be out of sight as to not disrupt the theme or aesthetics of the dash unit.
Most common is glove box relocation.
