Hi there!!!
I have just completed my repairs on my Wagon and had a nice spin around the block.......it looks ok. The only thing is, the engine will not fire up once it is warm. it is cranking but it does not start. Well I read about it and the usual suspects are apprently: 1. coolant temp sensor 2. Camshaft positioning sensor 3. ignition coil 4. idle valve ?? (what is that??)
I wanted to check the coil yesterday but when they tow truck brought me home my battery was flat......
I also have an 850 GLT in my garage and I am wondering if I can swap the parts one-by-one to see if I can eliminate these issues?? I am thinking especially of the ignition coil.....I know that the idle control valve is bigger on my N/A but I have cleaned the one on the turbo very thoroughly so unless the idle vale positioning sensor is not damaged......it should be not the issue here.
I just wanted to say that (in regards to the coolant sensor) I have different injectors in the car....the ones from the V70R......like I said....it starts alright when the engine is cold and it runs ok......
Oh by the way......how do you check the ignition coil itself?? As far as I know, you hold the ignition coil cable (that goes to the distributor) on the top of the engine block.....is that correct??
Cheers for your time !!!! I mean it!!!!!
Herman the german!!!

OH....after 3 hours ish.....it fires up again...

What did you repair or replace on it?

This +1
herman
Well....apart from all coolant hoses and Turbo intake hoses, new bigger injectors, new spark plugs wires and spark plugs, new distributor (new rotor), ...the other parts were just for the new turbo
herman
oh but it had issues before that......but at least it fired up....even when it took some time...
Philia_Bear
Easily a broken wiring issue
Have you tried to pull codes from the ecu while its running?

Volvo plugs or other?
Ex850R
Battery?
Bits off an NA 850 (850glt) are not compatible.
What plugs did you use? Volvo branded or Yquiem? ones only.
Did you use Bougicord ignition wires?
New dizzy cap?
MAF maybe?
Ex850R
Fuel pressure regulator @Philia_Bear??
Ex850R
Or the hose that fails above the petrol tank?
Ex850R
Unplug the MAF when it won't start. it then runs on a default and if it does it would be faulty MAF.
clean it with MAF cleaner but plan on new one.
herman
Thanks snoopy. Thats the first thing that I will try. Checking the MAF. Will do it tomorrow. Cheers

OH by the way....all the before mentioned new spare parts have been ordered at FCP in the States and are Volvo or equivalent parts.
Ex850R
It doesn't show any signs of anything wrong to look at but a good squint of cleaner can prolong the life till you get a new or another used one but don't buy used ones unless real cheap.
I even have some cheap new Chinese one that seemed to be ok.....
Ex850R
Where are you?
I have spares in Melbourne if it's the problem.

I would ordinarily recheck everything I'd just replaced or fiddled with. Specifically injector install and any sensor plugs you may have fiddled with. Good luck!

Hi There!! Or I am located in Perth/WA.
Well now the car does not start at all anymore.....not even when it is cold. I checked first the Ignition System and there is no Power reaching the Ignition coil. I took off both cable which are going to the ignition coil and put the voltmeter on it and try to start the car but the voltmeter did not show anything....the battery is working fine.
So i put everything back together and read out the error codes of the OBD1. The A-Side and the B-Side.....well I am sure that old codes have never been erased because I have 36 error codes in both side together....most of them in the B-Side Port1 (Climate control) .
Unfortunetly I cannot erase the codes to see which ones are really current. As far as I know the engine has to run to do it......well what I found strange is also that OBD A-Side Port 6 (Ignition System Faults) does not give any feedback at all......I thought all the ports should at least show...1-1-1......but I do not get any from: OBD A-Side: Port 1 (Transmission Codes)..maybe because I have a manual??? Port 5 (What is that??).....and Port 6 (mentioned above).
OBD B-Side: Port 1 Climate Control.....I have 29 error codes in here....Port 2 Cruise Control: 1-2-2 , Port 3(What is that?),5 (SRS),7 (What is that??) no feedback and Port 6 (Power Seats) shows 1-1-1 even though I do not have Power Seats.....
One of the codes says that I have a ECU Memory Failure....Does that mean that the ECU is damaged??.....well or maybe an old code as well...
Any Ideas???

Try another ecu?
herman
Yeah I have got another one...I will try that one.....
