Hey guys. Looking to replace all the mounts and torque rods in my xc90 v8 as the lower right one is due so I figure I do them all then work toward the rest of the typical front end.
Question is do I buy local or do I go OS for the parts ie fcp euro or Volvo website etc as I'm getting a few bits.
While I'm at it. Id like to get the tranny flushed time poor so although I could get it done myself realistically that ain't going to happen! Suggestions here re getting a local tranny Shop to do it or travel to Melbourne to get a place like Berry's or Voldat etc to do it.
Thoughts and suggestions welcome.
Oh and as a side note so I know when it's due, best engine oil for the v8? 170k km.

Make any progress on this?
My advice on mounts.. go oem only. Fcpeuro are good and quick.

FCP are great, and I agree with @bigal, use genuine quality only. FCP often sell the Volvo OEM parts under the licensed manufacturer's own brand. If that's the case the part description will say "Quality: OE", but you effectively are getting the Volvo part, just without the Volvo logo.

For XC90 mounts
I've had zero issues with Uro branded mounts which you can get for cheap from rockauto.com

Still getting around to it. Fcp have 30% off at the moment but don't have the the right lower mount listed. Just going to do that and the upper and lower torque mounts.

Looking at ipd they have the Hutchison branded mounts. Are these effectively the oem mounts? Im sure I've read that somewhere.
bigal
Yep. They are OEM.

No answer on the oil question? I'm interested to hear others' opinions on this, unless it's been done to death on another thread. Mine has similar k's. Penrite? Nulon? Mobil1?
Philia_Bear
I just use volvo genuine or penrite full synthetic for nearl any fluid in the car
kyril
Yep. I used penrite in my last change. Hasn't missed a beat.

Castrol magnatec 5w30 stop start A5 oil, and is fully synthetic too, told by castrol tech guy

Does it say it on the bottle though?

There you go.
Still prefer the Penrite.
I have the dealer Castrol in my T6 atm.
Feels wrong, just like I first noticed back in my 850R days, some oils, all synthetics just didn't feel right, call me crazy...
So I'm going for Penrite, may even the racing oil, proper good synthetic!

I think I've mentioned it before, but my brother has been a number 1 mechanic for various V8 supercar teams and GT teams for the past decade. He's seen many so called high performance oils over this time and he says at the moment Penrite is the stuff to go with and has been for a while. That's good enough for me.
He says most of the to level teams use it, regardless of who they are branded with.
But sometimes I guess it's like the Ford vs Holden argument.....
Dan_xc90
Just to be clear, the castrol magnatec 5w30 stop start A5 oil only suits the V8 engines after 2010, if I was to use penrite which most mechanics would prefer it would be the HPR 0 as it's A5 recommended, HPR 5 is recommended in the 2009 and older
V8 models

@Philia_Bear, what do you use in v8 around town? Drain intervals?
Use flushing oil?
Dan_xc90
I just used the castrol synthetic oil recommended by there tech dept as I got it for half price, with the penrite engine flush ADEF375....
I have that national warrentee program so I have to get a oil change done by a mechanic every 6 months or 5000km and send them the invoices
Dan_xc90
Most other T5 and petrol engine Volvo models should be fine using penrite HPR5 or Hpr0 fully synthetic oil, from what Peer at GLT care centre told me ??

Beware bloke the national wty program is a rip off. They do nothing. Look up on the net....
