..... and 18 months later, it's update time.
With thanks to Torben, the GoaT got a replacement GT grille which in in better shape than the one on the car. The one on the car when I bought it had had a very hard life, as well as a very bad black paint job, which was peeling off. Seen here posing with the wife's car and the 144, back in the mountains.
With the new grille, I drove it down to Port Melbourne to get on the Spirit of Tas. The GoaT was a real hit with the seagulls.
However, about 20 minutes into the hour long drive back home, after getting off the ship, The GoaT had a major 'fail to proceed' moment.
Upon investigation, it was an electrical problem.
(A conrod appears to have hit the starter motor....)
So, at present, I'm thinking about options, and what the future will be for it -
K-Jet, with original head and one spare L-block bottom end?
K-Jet, with original head, pull the 530 and swap onto the spare K-block 740 B230 bottom end?
Manual or auto with either of the above, since I have a spare 8-bolt flywheel, a spare M46, and a spare 240 pedal box?
Or...
Drop in the complete spare K-block 740 B230 engine with AW70 and 530 head, and run LH 2.4 with wasted spark?
Pull the 530 from above, use a spare K-block, and run LH 2.4, with wasted spark behind the AW70?
Or...
Go a wee bit crazy, and do a basic B230FT LH 2.4 with all the bits I've picked up, behind that spare AW71 I picked up from Mister Bear some while ago....?
The only certain thing is the existing BW55 / AW55 / whatever 3 speed thing, is going to ... uh, go wherever old 3-speed autos go to rust in pieces. Minus the output shaft and rear housing, if they can be grafted onto the back of the AW70 so I can keep the 242's existing cable speedo drive.
It's in no rush to get going, however I don't want it sitting round forever, nor spend megabucks on it. At minimum, it must have new hoses, gaskets, seals, o-rings, etc and a basic dismantle / clean / inspect / replace only if cactus, which isn't exactly peanuts anyway.
Ah; decisions....
